LEITRIM FLEADH CHEOIL

The 2020 Leitrim Fleadh Cheoil, which was scheduled to take place from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26, in Manorhamilton and Glenfarne but it has been postponed by its organisers, the Leitrim Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Branch, due to the nationwide restrictions imposed because of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

Never the less the Leitrim Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Branch is continuing to take entries for the Fleadh this year. A recent statement issued by Glenfarne Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Branch said ‘we are hoping to go ahead with the Fleadh later in the year subject to COVID-19 restrictions.’

NW CORONAVIRUS GROUP

The Northwest Coronavirus Updates and Support Facebook Group, which have been formed in recent weeks, say they are ‘in these difficult times a space for people in Northwest to stay connected, keep each other calm, informed and offer support and advice where possible.’.

The group, which currently has 841 members, provides frequent new information on the current coronavirus COVID-19 situation from a local (Leitrim, Sligo and Donegal) perspective, as well as from a national standpoint.

The Group’s administrators and founding members are Dilean MacSearraigh, Ailish Callaghan, Róisín McGrath, Simon Murphy and Ruth Flood. It has 11 guidelines/rules to which all members must adhere. The group encourages everyone in the Northwest to check its Facebook page.

ONLINE MANOR MART

When Manorhamilton Live Stock Sales promoted their first ever online sales event on Wednesday, April 8, it was an outstanding success.

Like all others countrywide, the normal Manorhamilton Mart operations had been more or less brought to a halt due to the coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions. By going online the Manor Mart has been able to cater for local farmers, who were facing a massive problem on how to deal with the disposal of their livestock, particularly in this springtime period of the year.

A massive 1,300 farmers registered on the day for what was Manorhamilton’s first ever virtual mart online. The online mart was enabled when local farmers downloaded the livestock live app. They were then able to watch the live feed of the mart and bid for the animals remotely, via their smartphone or tablet device.

TRÓCAIRE BOXES

Cloonclare-Killasnett (Manorhamilton, Glencar and Mullies) parishioners are reminded that Trócaire boxes, envelopes for offertory collections and the priests’ income collection may be put through the letter boxes in the priests’ house.

Also in St Clare’s Church Manorhamilton there is a brass rectangular box that can be used for this purpose. Masses will continue on the Cloonclare-Killasnett Parish Facebook page at 9.30 a.m. each weekday morning and the Sunday Mass will be at 11.30 a.m. while the Adoration will be on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Fr Paul’s home is in Ballyconnell and he celebrates Masses in the churches there behind closed doors at the moment due to the current Coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions on crowds gathering.
