Rugby club receives grant of over €15,000
Under the 2018 Sports Capital programme in November 2019 the government awarded €37m spread out among 994 clubs in 37 sports.
Whilst Sligo RFC was successful in its application, no funding was allocated in the November announcement towards a proposed project that would see the main grass pitch at the club re-developed.
Following a subsequent appeal of this decision, they can now confirm that the club has now been awarded a grant of €15,253 towards the redevelopment of a natural playing surface.
No decision has been made by the Club as to the timing of any likely commencement on the capital works on the main pitch in this regard.
To date the Club has been awarded €50,000 under the 2014 Sports Capital Programme which was invested in the all-weather training pitch at the Club, a further €78,000 was awarded under the 2017 Sports Capital Programme which is to be invested in the new dressing rooms at the Club, which it is hoped can be commenced in the months following the lifting of the current Covid-19 restrictions, and now €15,253 awarded under the 2018 Sports Capital Programme.
The Club wishes to acknowledge and thank the Government for the ongoing commitment to the development of Sport through the Sports Capital programmes, without which Club’s would struggle to finance capital projects vital to the continued growth of and investment in the sport.
