Closing factory’s community spirit
NORTH West Hospice has paid tribute to a local company due to close soon for its support during the Covid-19 crisis.
GSK, the skincare manufacturer based at Finisklin, has been thanked for its donation of one thousand bottles of hand sanitiser to the hospice for use by its staff and volunteers.
The hospice also thanked GSK, which is due to close later this year with the loss of 165 jobs, for its ongoing support over the years, from fundraising, to setting up its shop in Sligo and support of its fundraising events.
GSK Sligo has been producing pharmaceutical treatments for skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis over the last 45 years. It was previously owned by Stiefel Laboratories.
In response to the COVID19 crisis it began manufacturing hand sanitiser, following WHO guidelines, for GSK employees in Sligo and Dungarvan, where critical production of Panadol continues.
“Globally, GSK is doing everything it can as an organisation to fight the threat of COVID19, from donations to vaccine development and the Sligo site is no different.
“We want to do everything we can, whilst we remain open, to support our community.
“So to help, in addition to donating some of our PPE and hand sanitiser to Sligo University Hospital and our local
An Garda Síochána, we are delighted to be donating one thousand bottles to our charity partner, the North West Hospice, as they continue in their efforts to help families through the most challenging times.
“This donation is part of a series of contributions we hope to make in the local community.
“We hope that what we are doing in GSK Sligo will have a positive impact and that we can make a difference in our local community.
“We are fortunate to have a wonderful team, committed to doing the right thing in challenging circumstances.”,” said Russell Macpherson, Site Director, GSK Sligo.
