New engineering courses at the IT

-

IT Sligo’s Faculty of Engineering has received validation of three new level 8 courses, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in robotics and Automation Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electronics and Self Driving Technology.

This has been the result of many years of consultation and building up of expertise in the different fields of engineering. It provides a direct entry route for students in the North West of Ireland into an honours engineering course in the region for the first time. IT Sligo has been offering honours degrees for many years but only as an addon course after students had completed the Level 7 degree.

IT Sligo is busy collaborating with its partners, GMIT and LYIT, to make a submission to bring a Technological University to the North West of Ireland. These new courses will aid in that endeavour. It is hoped to have TU status in the next few years. IT Sligo has an excellent record in providing high level engineering education and graduates to the region since the Regional Technical College opened in Sligo in 1970.

Mechanical Engineering has been to the fore and the IT is delighted to be able to offer the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering for CAO applicants for 2020. The course will be delivered over four years. The Honours BEng in Mechanical Engineering, Level 8, is a four year full time programme.
