Run to Ruislip raises over €40k!
Remarkable amounts are raised by clubs for charities
THE temperatures soaring into the late twenties didn’t stop hundreds of players, managers and club members taking part in fundraisers for charity during the June Bank Holiday weekend.
Among the many events taking place was Curry GAA’s Run to Ruislip in memory of their late manager JP Duffy.
The initial target was €5k but already in excess of €40k has been reached, and counting with the GoFundMe Page still open to donations until the end of the week.
Friends and family from around the world took part in the run on a sun-drenched Saturday as Curry was the starting point.
The virtual route went from Curry to Charlestown, onto Castlebar, Croke Park and then McGovern Park in Ruislip and back with a whopping 1503 kilometres covered.
JP’s daughter Aoife thanked everyone for their phenomenal support and donations with all of the money going to Croí.
There was also huge support in Shamrock Gaels throughout the month of May for their 5k a day challenge for the Northwest Hospice in memory of their clubman John Lyons. That too has widely supported with over €25k raised so far for the charity. The event finished on Sunday with crowds lining the route from Castlebaldwin to Coola to cheer on those taking part in the 5k race/walk. Sligo ladies were also out in force with Páirc go Páirc raising money for the Northwest Hospice, Down Syndrome Sligo and the Irish Society for Autism. On Sunday Sligo U16’s ladies along with their fellow Connacht teams took part in the Run for Ríoghnán, along with St Nathy’s GAA club members to raise the important message of organ donation in memory of Ríoghnán Flanagan.
