TALKS between the FAI and the League of Ireland clubs will resume today (Tuesday) as all parties try to reach agreement on resuming the 2020 League of Ireland season.

Talks began two weeks ago and with the issue of funding proving one of the biggest sticking points, it now seems as though the FAI are willing to offer more funding to clubs.

The Government last week pledged €40 million for the FAI, GAA and IRFU.

It has yet to be confirmed who will get how much of that pot, but that will certainly go a long way towards the cost of getting the season back up and running.

There is a huge amount to be figured out. The length of the season is one of the biggest issues at present.

It seems as though the season will be halved from 36 games to 18, and with four games played, that means that Sligo Rovers would have just 14 games to save their season as they currently sit bottom with zero points.

Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers, Bohemian and Derry City were all allowed to return to training earlier this month due to their involvemen­t in European football.

They were due to play in a four team tournament but it appears that idea has been shelved to try save money.

The FAI Cup could be sacrificed, while Dundalk want the whole season to be re-started, as in play 18 games when the season gets back up and running.

Sligo Rovers are against relegation for obvious reasons, while a play-off game to decide relegation/promotion is one of the ideas being floated.

If there is no relegation, then it means that First Division clubs
