Funding for Ballintogher road works will help alleviate speeding issues

-

THE start of the second phase of road safety measures for Ballintogher village has been welcomed by local Sinn Féin Councillor Thomas Healy who says these works will help reduce issues with the road in the village.

“I am delighted to welcome the €30,000 additional funding secured under the low cost accident scheme for the village of Ballingtogher,” said Cllr Healy.

“Speed is a major issue through the village and I want to acknowledge the huge work put in by the R290 campaign group in highlighting this and other problems on the road over the past seven years.

The Collooney based Councillor added: “A lot of these issues have been addressed and these latest works will go a long way towards alleviating the problems.

“A public meeting was held in the Community Hall in Ballintogher in March 2019 and I am delighted to see that the Council have listened to residents and have taken everything that we said on board.

“On the Ballygawley entrance by St Teresa’s National School the existing pedestrian crossing is going to be raised which will both slow traffic and allow pedestrians to cross with greater safety.

“At the same time safety ramps will be installed at the Dromahair side and the entire main street will be re-tarred.

“This is the result of many years of campaigning and lobbying, I will be pushing ahead to maintain the pressure for the third and final phase of these works to be completed.”
