Indian community ambassador visit
INDIAN Ambassador to Ireland, Sandeep Kumar visited Sligo last Thursday for two days where he met with the local Indian community and paid tribute to the many doctors and nurses from India working at Sligo University Hospital during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
The ambassador first met with members of the local Indian community at the Glasshouse Hotel on Thursday evening before also being hosted at County Hall by County Council chairman, Cllr Dara Mulvey.
It was the ambassador’s first visit outside Dublin since the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.
He also had a meeting with Junior Minister Frank Feighan TD and Mayor of the Borough District of Sligo, Clr. Rosaleen O’Grady.
On Friday, Mr Kumar visited Sligo University Hospital to thank the management and staff of the hospital for the great work carried out to date with the COVID-19 outbreak.
Mr Kumar met senior management at the hospital as well as some of the staff from India employed at the hospital.
During his visit the Ambassador held a short meeting with management and staff and offered support from the embassy for any needs of the hospital and its staff.
Mr Kumar said:“My first visit in Ireland some years ago was to Sligo and I am delighted to get the opportunity to again visit on my first travel outside Dublin since the Covid outbreak.
“I am aware of the great job that was carried out in the hospital during the outbreak and I wanted to thank the staff and listen to any issues they may have, that I can support them with.”
Grainne McCann, Hospital Manager thanked Mr Kumar for his visit and for the offer of support.
“I want to thank the contribution of staff from India in providing care and treatment to patients in our region over many years,” she said.
