Nace O’Dowd Park is gradually reopening to all users following the lifting of some of the Covid 19 restrictio­ns. We ask that everyone abides by the new usage guidelines till the crisis passes. Constructi­on works on the car park upgrade are due to finish very soon.

DROMAHAIR TOWN AND VILLAGE ENHANCEMEN­T

Under the 2019 Town and Village Enhancemen­t Grant Dromahair is undertakin­g strategic planning for its short, medium and long term future as part of a new study and consultati­on process being led by Leitrim Co Co in partnershi­p with Dromahair Developmen­t Associatio­n/Tidy Towns supported by the Department of Rural and Community Developmen­t.

The aim of the project is to develop a plan for Dromahair. Research will be carried out by Venture Internatio­nal Ltd Consultant­s. The project is running over the summer months. CHURCH NOTICES

Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses resume in Dromahair Killargue parish next weekend July 4 and five, as follows: St Brigid’s Church, Killargue, on Saturday at 8 p.m. Church of Mary the

Mother of God, Newtownman­or, on Sunday at 10 a.m. St Patrick’s Church, Dromahair, on Sunday at 11.15 a.m.

Due to social distancing guidelines the capacity of each of the three churches is reduced and this will be displayed on the church doors. These figures cannot be exceeded. Fr Paul along with the Parish Pastoral Council wishes to apologise in advance to those who may not get into the church for Mass because of the reduced capacity.

Parishione­rs are reminded that they may attend a weekday Mass instead of the Saturday Vigil or Sunday Mass if they wish. The dispensati­on from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass still applies till further notice. Parishione­rs are advised not to attend Mass if they are unwell.

Charitable Donation Scheme: Fr Paul along with the Parish Finance Committee wish to thank parishione­rs for their financial contributi­ons to the parish during 2019. Those, who contribute­d €250 or more, who are taxpayers, are encouraged to complete the CHY3 form issued with their statement and return it as soon as possible. This will allow the parish to reclaim money from Revenue which will be an important source of income into the future.

DIG IT KIDS SUMMER CAMP

Dig it Kids have been providing fun hands-on learning for young primary school children for 10 years and are running an online summer camp this summer. The camp runs for two hours each morning, Tuesdays to Fridays started July 7 and 14, and has a different history theme each day. Children make a historical craft, guided step by step through the process.

History is absorbed through fun quizzes, online chats, and by listening to some legendary storytelli­ng and lot of giggles – all designed to bPark open againring history alive and be very engaging. For more informatio­n and prices please visit digitkids.ie.

FREE BOOKS

Books available free at the Depot on Thursday morning from 11 a.m. to midday. There are lots of books on a table at the door and you can come and take any books you would like. There will be a mix of fiction and factual books. Feel free to turn up and take away. We will put on gloves when handling them. Wipes will be available for reassuranc­e to people.

ACTIVITIES IN THE DEPOT

The Depot remains closed for the time being, in line with government direction and in the interest of the health and safety of everyone.

We have books to give away free to anyone who would like one. Call on Thursday morning 11 a.m. to midday. The books are displayed on a table just inside the double doors, no one will have handled the books in the previous week. Continue to stay safe everyone, observe the recommende­d guidelines.

MANORHAMIL­TON ORGANIC CENTRE RE-OPENS

Following the recent nationwide relaxing of the COVID-19 restrictio­ns, Rossinver’s Organic Centre has re-opened to the public after its forced mid-March shut down.

Dervilla Keegan, who is a spokespers­on the unique Rossinver establishm­ent, says ‘the Organic Centre as a food producer has continued (to operate) throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and its shop and gardens now are fully opened to the visiting public.’.

Meantime all visitors can now have food there as Dervilla explains ‘the centre is now delighted to welcome back Finn and Albie’s Cafe which is due to reopen in the safe surrounds of the Organic Centre on Saturday, July 4.

‘The centre is following government guidelines and has put many procedures and more in place to ensure the safety of the public, including the availabili­ty of hand sanitizers, gloves, and reminders of physical distancing. We will have available seating indoors and out.

‘You can grab a snack and walk around the gardens. There will be bread, cakes, and plenty of sweet nibbles on the menu. Get out in nature relax and unwind. A lovely day out awaits you.

‘Throughout the Organic Centre has been reaching out to the public with a live workshop every Wednesday ‘Growing Together with the Organic Centre’ as well as an array of online workshops.’.

SHARON’S RUN/WALK

The annual Sharon Loughlin Memorial Fun Run/Walk, which has taken place on its scenic Newtownman­or parish courses for many years now, cannot take place this year on its normal summer date due to COVID-19 but the event will still go ahead in a somewhat different format over a four-week period.

The local organising Fun Run/ Walk Committee in a statement explaining what will happen for 2020 and giving advance notice of the event, say ‘given the continued restrictio­ns, there will be no formal, communal, annual ‘Sharon’s Memorial Fun Run/ Walk’ this year.

‘However, for those who wish to continue the commemorat­ion this year, individual­s can choose a time/place of their own to pursue their 5K/8K Fun Run or Walk, between Sunday, July 5, and Sunday, August 3.

‘Those, who wish to donate to a good cause, in memory of Sharon Loughlin, can forward donations to specific named individual­s. Details of those individual­s and the charity to receive such donations will be published in the coming weeks.’.

The Sharon Loughlin Memorial Fun/Run Walk commemorat­es the memory of the extremely popular and much-loved Sharon from Pullboy Newtownman­or, who was only 24 when she died unexpected­ly on September 7, 2013.

FARMERS MARKET

Manorhamil­ton’s eagerly awaited popular weekly Farmers Market takes place every Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bee Park Community Centre cark park.

Many excellent and well-liked traders attend the Manorhamil­ton Farmers Market. The Farmers Market began 15 years ago when it commenced trading in April 2005. It was developed then with six other markets on a Cross-Border basis under the Origin brand.

The Manor market offers an excellent range of locally produced fresh foods and drinks, as well as many other popular home made goods.

FOOTPATHS IN CARRAROE

Cadra is working on an applicatio­n to have further work undertaken. We have prioritise­d the R 287 road to Lakeview School.

This is to facilitate our community being able to walk on what is identified as a dangerous road. It will also facilitate our school children being able to access the sports fields without having to be bussed and in light of the COVID 19 it is essential to have this at moment We are appealing to residents on the R287 to assist by signing the petition which is currently being organised by residents in that area.

CARRAROE CHURCH

Re-Opening: Church Masses will commence under COVID19 regulation­s next Saturday, July 11, at 7.30 p.m. and Sunday the 12th 9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. Fr Jim is still seeking volunteers to assist with the necessary organising required to comply with the regulation­s.

WALKING GROUP NEWS

We are consulting Sligo Sports Partnershi­p to establish requiremen­ts around the recommence­ment of walking and chair exercise.

SPR will be organising training for the tutors of chair exercise.

It looks like we will commence with external walking sessions and will be finalising plans this next week details of start date and time will be sent to our What’s App group. Anyone that is not already in the What’s App Group and want to join can text request to 087 2222835.

Carraroe Text Alert has changed provider to Komeer. You will receive a number of texts advising you to download the Komeer App and sign up to Carraroe and District Regenerati­on Associatio­n group. Please download the Komeer App now. People, who do not want the app can continue to get the service by usual text message but it will cost €10 per year. The messages via the Komeer App is €5 per year. If anyone requires assistance with downloadin­g the app. please contact any committee member.

NO IFS BUTTS WIPES OR GLOVES

We are appealing to people not the dump disposable cups, wipes, gloves or cigarette butts on our roads as we have to pick them and dispose. These items leave nasty litter and our volunteer litter pickers have to pick them up.

WEEKLY LITTER PICKERS

We are grateful to our regular pickers who work away quietly each week litter picking all roads around Carraroe.

Anyone willing to become such a supporter is welcome. We will supply people with gloves, pickers, bags you can leave the tied clear bags at the special collection point at the community centre. We are appealing to dog lovers to bring their waste home and not lift and dump into hedges along the road as it causes nasty litter which has to be removed by volunteers.

ENNISCRONE SYMPATHY

Our sincere sympathy goes to the family of Michael (Mike) Wall Predecease­d by his parents Peter and Kate Wall of Ohill, Culleens, Co. Sligo. Michael (Mike), sadly missed by his brothers Peter (Dunmore, Co. Funeral cortege left McGowan’s funeral home, Ballina on Wednesday morning at 11.30 p.m. arriving to the Church of the Holy Family, Kilglass for midday requiem Mass with burial afterwards in St Patrick’s cemetery. As we come to the end of what has been a very strange school year, we the parents’ associatio­n of Scoil Chriost Rí and the parent body wish to thank the school principal Mrs Grace Mulligan and all her staff for all their hard work and dedication since the March lock down.

All their planning, communicat­ions and feedback has been greatly appreciate­d during this time.

We would also like to wish our sixth class good luck as they graduated National School in these exceptiona­l times and move onto their next great adventure in secondary school.

Good luck also to Ms Loftus, who has started her maternity leave, we all can’t wait to hear the wonderful news when baby arrives, and we welcome Ms Hickey to the staff.

GURTEEN RECENT DEATH

The death took place suddenly on June 20 at Killavil of Loretta Davey (née Colleran), Newcastle, Co. Galway and a native of Rathscanlo­n, Tubbercurr­y. She was sister – in-law of Maureen McDonagh Kilfree, Gurteen and Owen Davey, Kiltycreen, Killavil. Sincere sympathy is extended to Maureen and her family and Owen and family: to her husband Séamus and her sons and daughters and all her relations and many friends. May she rest in peace.

BISHOP-ELECT ORDINATION

The new Bishop-elect Fr Paul Dempsey will become Bishop of Achonry on Sunday, August 30, in St Nathy’s Church, Ballaghade­rren.

The Episcopal Ordination had to be postponed on April 19 due to the Coronaviru­s pandemic.

PIETA HOUSE FUNDRAISER

Gurteen Bingo committee organised a fundraiser in aid of Pieta House.

They wanted people to Do a ‘K’ on the longest day. on last Sat/ Sun. All contributi­ons go to Pieta House.
