STRANDHILL

WE finally got back to competitio­ns last week and held our first Open Competitio­n on Wednesday and the results were as follows; 1ST – Neil Carew (Strandhill) 40Pts (15) 2nd – John Verdon (Strandhill) 40 Pts (22) 3rd – Peter McGrath (Strandhill) 39 Pts (15). Friday 3rd July was our Mixed Open S/F Competitio­n and the results were as follows: 1st – Virginia Curran (Strandhill) 40 Pts (34), 2nd – Bernard Kerrigan (Strandhill) 40 Pts (19), 3rd – Ciaran Henry (Strandhill) 39 Pts (04)Saturday 4th July was a S/F Competitio­n and was kindly sponsored by Porter Ford. The results were as follows; 1st Brian Dwyer 45 Pts (20), 2nd Colin Foran 42 Pts (12), 3rd Keith McManus 40Pts (25). Sunday 5th July, was another S/F Competitio­n and was kindly sponsored by Keane’s Centra. The results were as follows; 1st Brian Dwyer 42 Pts (18), 2nd Frank Gannon 40 Pts (17),3rd Michael Keane 35 Pts (11). We would like to congratula­te all the winners and once again thank our sponsors for their continued support.

CASTLE DARGAN

Competitiv­e golf made a welcome return to Castle Dargan last week. Wednesday and Thursday’s 9 hole alternate day competitio­n was won by Kevin Conlon with a score of 18 points. The Mill Pharmacy sponsored 18 hole alternate open competitio­n was won by Krzystof Drazkowiak with Aidan McGoldrick in second place. Sunday’s competitio­n was an 18 hole stableford competitio­n sponsored by O’Grady’s Shop and Bar and was won by Kevin McCarthy with 36 points. Alan Taffee was second on 35 points. On Wednesday and Thursday this week, the 9 hole alternate day open competitio­n continues. On Friday and Saturday the Ulster Bank sponsored 18 hole alternate open competitio­n takes place. Sunday’s competitio­n is an 18 hole stableford competitio­n sponsored by Porter Ford. The concluding stages of the postponed winter league are also due to take place. In the A section Martin Burke plays Brian Travers, with the winner due to play Alan Martin in the final. In the B section Tony Wasylocha is due to play Ray O’Grady in the final.

The draw for the Castle Dargan Cup match play has also taken place. Round 1 is due to be played by July 12th and further details can be found in the Golf shop. All members are reminded of the need to continue to observe the return to play protocols as issued by the GUI.

The Club wishes to extend their sympathies to the family of Mary Walsh on her recent passing. Mary was a popular member of the club and will be sadly missed. May she Rest In Peace.

BOYLE

RESTART - This week saw the restart of official club competitio­ns, with the ladies first off the mark on Tuesday last with a 9 hole Stableford, with the men following on Thursday with a 12 hole Stableford. The men played again on Sunday the 5thfor the Bart Moran Cup with the format being 18 hole Strokeplay. Results were not available at the time of going to press. Given that the clubhouse is still “off limits”, the cup itself will be presented to the winner at a later date. The men’s Thursday night competitio­n was won by Lochlainn Conboy with a great score of 32 points for the 12 holes. Gerry Carty came second with 30 points ( and won the 2s club) and Gabriel Lavin’s 28 took third. FIXTURES - This year’s fixture list has been re-drawn 4 times already this year and is now on version 5! There is good news though - due to the Government­s accelerati­on of the phases of re-opening, the Captains and Lady Captains Prizes are back on the schedule. The Captains Prize to the men takes place on the 16th of August, and the Lady Captains prize for the ladies takes place on the 6th of September. Next Sunday’s competitio­n for the men is the PGA Tankard played as an 18 hole Stableford, with the James Shivnan Memorial competitio­n taking place the following Sunday, the 19th of July. The keenly anticipate­d “Voucher” competitio­n takes place on the last Sunday in July, the 26th. The winner of the “Voucher” gets a free single membership for the year. To be eligible to win the “Voucher”, your membership fees must be valid for 2020.

Drumsna Garden Centre Scramble; Following last week’s stableford(Bush Hotel), this week’s competitio­n is a 3 person scramble. The competitio­n will run over Saturday and Sunday only. Enter names on the timesheet(online) for either day and the draw will be made towards the end of the week. Results of both competitio­ns here next week. The next two July competitio­ns are D&D Insurance-Stroke, and DiVino’sStablefor­d.

Garvey and Lynch Cups; Great to see most groups have at least one match played. Some good weather coming so all group matches should easily be played before August 1st deadline. Matches must be booked online and all social distancing notices observed.
