Writing workshop to help build our resilience

-

PEOPLE across County Sligo are being invited to join a new series of writing for wellbeing workshops focussed on the theme of ‘Reconnecting.’

Anna Morvern, who will facilitate the workshops, says that writing has always been used to help people reconnect when life is unpredictable or challenging.

“At the beginning of the pandemic, I remember reading that residents of Wuhan were using journaling to maintain their wellbeing in an evolving, very difficult situation.

“I know from my experience of facilitating groups over the years that writing can build our resilience and it allows us to recharge our creative batteries too.

“It can be a powerful way of reconnecting with the self and our personal story, with our community and with our future.”

A registered teacher and practitioner of “writing for wellbeing” or “therapeutic writing”, Anna has previously led groups in Tubbercurry, Manorhamilton and Belfast.

The venue for this workshop series is provisionally Sligo Folk Park in Riverstown, depending on the social distancing requirements in force at the time the course begins.

An online option is planned for people who are still cocooning or otherwise unable to attend in person.

The aim is to produce a series of postcards on “Reconnecting” featuring participants’ writing. But Anna emphasises that there is no obligation to share in her groups.

“Writing can be purely for the self, using the classes as a space for each person to develop their voice and express their feelings and ideas in various forms,” she adds.

The eight workshops will take place weekly from 10.30 to 12.30 am, beginning on Monday 14 September.

For further information or to book, individuals can leave a message on 091 442 348.

Participation is free thanks to funding from the MSLETB.
