Covid-19 crisis inspires new business idea
A new business specialising in the sanitising of cars has been established in north Sligo.
Sligo Vehicle Sanitising Service is the new venture set up by Micéal Currid in Ballinful - though it is also a mobile service.
Mr Currid has set up the business in response to the cleaning needs of many motorists in light of Covid-19, and has been encouraged by the response of those who have used it so f
ar. Using a special fog, the deep sanitising of the vehicle kills all bacteria and germs, Mr Currid says, and can also help clear any lingering odours.
“It’s with a fogging machine so it puts out a fog until you see little or nothing in the car,” Mr Currid explained to The Sligo Champion.
“Then it takes about 15 minutes and I just walk away and let it do its job before it clears again.
“It kills all germs and bacteria and will also get rid of smells and odours, like food or drink spillages, tobacco or after pets were in the car. It leaves it fresh.”
Differing to a valeting service, the fog provides for a deep clean on the car interior. The idea for the business for Micéal came from a friend in the UK, where it has been used before.
“A friend of mine in England put me in touch with it, he is in the car business over there and he sent it over. I got a machine over then and went with it from there.
“There’s a solution that goes into it that I put in the machine myself. All I need really is a power point.”
With Covid-19 increasing the need for such a service, Micéal has been encouraged by the satisfaction of customers so far and says that the mobile service he provides is also an added benefit.
“People thought when I opened up first that it was valeting but its not - the problem with it is you can’t see the work that has been done, but it does clean the car and leave it without germs and bacteria.
“I’m doing a mobile service so I can do it from where I am, but I can also go to where you are with the machine and doing it there. I can go anywhere, all I need is a power point.”
