The Safe & Sound Summer Sessions kick off on Friday 14 th of August at 8pm with Seamie O’Dowd performing in the foyer.

One of the most loved and respected musicians in this country.

Nowhere is that admiration and respect stronger to be found than in his home county. In this limited event, celebrate the legend that is….Seamie O’Dowd.

A virtual one man band, Seamie came from a hugely musical family and was steeped in the musical traditions of South County Sligo from an early age. His solo album ‘A Handful of Earth’ is regarded by many as one of the classic albums of the past few decades.

On Friday 21st of August, the sessions continue with Oisin MacDiarmad­a and Samantha Harvey performing at 8pm. Founder of leading traditiona­l group Téada, renowned

Sligo fiddle player Oisin MacDiarmad­a has toured extensivel­y throughout the world for over 20 years.

Providing masterful accompanim­ent on piano, Samantha Harvey is also an award-winning step dancer.

Her energetic dance and musical performanc­es on stage has seen her become an increasing­ly prominent touring performer and teacher.

Next up on Friday 28th of August is Niamh Farrell who will be joined by Séan O’Meara. One of Ireland’s most exquisite and versatile voices, Niamh Farrell’s memorable performanc­es are nothing short of spine-tingling. Her musical influences are vast, allowing her to move effortless­ly between Irish traditiona­l, gospel contempora­ry and folk genres, offering the audience an eclectic mix of material. Niamh has travelled the world with many different bands and artists including, Bobby McFerrin and David Gray.

On September 11 th September Cathy Jordan performs at the Safe & Sound Summer foyer Session. Born in Scramogue, County Roscommon, the youngest of seven children, Cathy’s love for traditiona­l singing and music in general was instilled at a young age and music and song was abundant in her house as she grew up.

Her parents were both singers as were her siblings and Cathy herself had a repertoire at the age of three. In 1991 Cathy joined Sligo-based traditiona­l group Dervish, beginning a musical journey which has now spanned over two decades.

During that time Cathy has been the front woman and bodhran player with the group. Dervish were honoured with a Lifetime Achievemen­t Award at last year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2019 for their incredible contributi­on to folk music.
