Connacht Gold Intermedia­te Football Championsh­ip Group 2 Rd 3 their scores in the first half. St. Farnan’s introduced substitute Shane O’Brien for Cahan Hallinan after twenty five minutes. At half time the score read St. Farnan’s 1-10, St. John’s 0-4.

After the break the first score came from a free from Conor Greene for St. John’s . A lovely ball from Patrick O’Connor to Stephen Mulligan could well have ended up in the net but for quick action by goalie Jack Doyle resulting in a ‘45. Two successive points followed for St. John’s to reduce the deficit to eight points 1-12 to 0-7. Substitute Shane O’Brien got his first score from play followed by one from Finnian Cawley. St. John’s were awarded a free which Brian McGowan blasted to the net. Despite the goal it was St. Farnan’s who continued with the momentum and added a number of points to their tally. The side produced some fine passages of play. Mark Devaney had a shot on goal saved. Charlie Harrison who worked hard throughout got a point from play. The final score came from Patrick O’Connor, as he was rewarded for all his efforts in the game with a goal just before the final whistle.

St. Farnan’s will be very pleased with this performanc­e as no fewer than ten players found themselves on the scoring sheet. This was a game in which the winner was never in doubt as St. John’s struggled to cope both with St. Farnan’s attack and defence.

St. John’s battled hard with good work by Brian McGowan, Charlie Harrison, Paul McNamara and goalie Jack Doyle.
