ST MICHAEL’S

LAST Wednesday our minors kept their 100% record intact with a convincing win over neighbours Shamrock Gaels. A goal in the dying minutes for the Gaels meant that there was an anxious finish to the game. There was great support for these two teams with parking stretching beyond PJ Linnane Park grounds. We will be anticipating another strong display on Wednesday away to Curry. ON the same evening our U12 girls travelled in the opposite direction to play the Gaels. We were up against a very strong team and lost with the final score being 24 scores to 8. Best for us was Aoibhe Halpin in the middle of the park, with another strong performance from Ava McGoldrick in front of goal. This young team’s skills are growing week by week as was typified by some nice moves by Kitija Vietniece.

THE same team were also in action away to Owenmore Gaels on Friday evening. Thanks to the high scoring by Ava McGoldrick and the high fielding display by Emma McDermott, we got back to winning ways. This team will be facing possibly their toughest assignment on Friday at home to Eastern Harps at 19:00. ON Thursday our U16 girls travelled to Curry. Prior to kick-off, all observed a minute silence as a mark of respect for the passing of Dominic Quinn. When the game started, Curry took an early lead by scoring 2-1 in the first few minutes, and never looked back. Our girls did have a resurgence in the second half, but not enough to have an impact on the result. Good for St. Michaels were Emma Hynes and Kayla McGowan.

U10 and U8 training continues every Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:00. Numbers are increasing at this every week, and even though we have only returned from lock-down a few short weeks ago, there is already a marked improvement in their skills and confidence. SUNDAY morning again saw a packed P.J. Linnane Park where St. Michael’s Senior Ladies hosted St. Mary’s. The St. Mary’s team, which was bolstered by players from at least two other clubs, were too strong for our ladies in the opening half, and some early goals left it very difficult to come back. The second half was a different story with our ladies showing much more determination in those 50/50 encounters. Ten minutes from the final whistle we had brought the deficit down to just 2 scores, but that was as close as we could get. Our Ladies must be commended for a fine display of determination and skill, and they will surely have a large contingent of supporters for this week’s trip to Tourlestrane Sunday 16th at 10:30. ON Sunday evening our U14 girls travelled to Geevagh where an evenly matched contest was served up. The first two minutes say the home side score two goals and a point without reply. However, St. Michaels worked their way back into the game, and early in the final quarter were a point ahead. This lead was not held for long and the hosts won out by a margin of 5 points.

SENIOR Footballers

OUR intermediate footballers remain unbeaten after a 12 point win over St Michaels in the 3rd round of the intermediate championship. After trailing early, we responded with 4 quick points to move onto a 0-4 to 0-2 lead, but conceded a goal soon after. Easkey responded well with some nice scores from play from Joe McHugh, Daniel Rolston and Jack Scott which left Easkey leading at the break 0-08 to 1-02. After a tight opening to the 2nd half, Easkey finished strongly with some fine points and a goal from Joe McHugh after some good work from his brother Rory, leaving the final score 1-16 to 1-04 EASKEY Team; S. Kilgannon, I.Barrett, N,McGuire, B.Feeney, N.Kilcullen, R.McHugh(0-01), J.Lindsay (0-01), E.Mullen (0-01), M.Gordon (0-02 1f), D.Rolston (0-01) J.McHugh ( 1-08, 3f), J.Feeney, K. Duffy, J.Scott (0-01), E.R.McGowan.

SUBS used-: K.Duffy 0-1, E.Moylan, H.Gilroy, J.Dunphy, C. Montague U16 Football EASKEY/ST Farnan’s U16s footballers suffered their first defeat to a strong Ballymote/Bunninadden team on Friday evening in Easkey. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, Easkey/St Farnan’s started slowly going in at half time with a deficit of 2-13 to 0-4. A strong 2nd half say Easkey/St Farnans storm back into the game but unfortunately just found the 1st half deficit too much to overcome, losing out on a final scoreline of 2-11 to 2-16. Despite the loss they are very much in the mix with 2 rounds remaining in the group stage. Their next game is an away fixture against St John’s this Friday at 6.30pm in Stenson Park U14 Football EASKEY/ST Farnans u14 football team begin their championship this week with an away fixture against ST Patrick’s in Skreen on Thursday evening at 6.30pm SENIOR Hurling
