ACHONRY-MULL IN A BREENA
ACHONRY FARMERS’ MARKET
Congratulations to Coolaney-Mullinabreena GAA Club on their establishment of the Achonry Farmers’ Market. This successful venture has provided not only support for local businesses but has been an important social outlet for community at this time.
The committee behind the Achonry Farmers’ Market would like to thank everyone for their support of the market since its launch in August 2020.
The market will take a wellearned break for the holidays and return on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Wishing them continued success.
Follow the Achonry Farmers’ Market Facebook page for regular updates on their stalls.
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Following the award of €800 for Christmas lightning under the Rural Towns and Villages Christmas Lights Scheme from Sligo County Council, the lights in the community are dazzeling bright. Harry McGowan kindly did the honours in Mullinabreena Picnic Area on December 5 and provided us with a few tunes as only Harry can, accompanied by Shane McGowan and followed with a few songs from the church choir.
Though high winds delayed plans for a switch on in Achonry on December 4 till December 6, John Patrick Kennedy, Hugh Devaney and Shane O’Brien finally did the honours there. With music provided by Frank, John and Cillian Brennan, Beibhinn Henry and Orla Scanlon.
It is also great to see Christmas lights shinning in the the Knocknashee Hub (formally the Knocknashee Inn). Well done to the volunteers there, who donated and erected the lights and decorations.
ELECTRICITY RETURNS TO CARROWMORE SCHOOLHOUSE
Electrical refurbishments works have been carried out at Carrowmore Schoolhouse to return a safe electricity supply to the 19th century Schoolhouse. This included an upgrading of electricity sockets and lighting, outdoor lighting and the installation of heaters. This was made possible through the successful grant application by a.m. CE Group to Sligo County Council under the centre’s and Building Fund.
Hopefully 2021 will see an easing of Covid restrictions allowing for an offical switch on and a number of opertunities for the community to come together at the old Schoolhouse.
