Sligo twins are behind a climate action video

- By CIARA GALVIN

WHAT do Pope Francis, Greta Thunberg and Sligo twins Kevin and Páraic McGloughlin have in common?

They were all involved in a climate action video to mark the 75 th anniversary of the United Nations earlier this year.

The video - ‘Imagine for one minute’ is described as being ‘a tiny film with a big idea’. Asking its viewers around the world to take one minute to visualise a better future we could have and then talk about it.

And, right at the core of the project were the twins, Kevin and Paraic who were commissioned to create the visualisation of the video and are credited as being directors of animation and visuals.

A stunning visual spectacle the brothers’ signature visuals resulted in a video that sees various faces from across the world change and morph, including the Swedish environmental activist, Thunberg.

The visuals seamlessly stitched together then change into scenes of climate action protests, forest fires, flowers blooming, nature healing and animals morphing.

Along with the voices of Thunberg and the Pontiff, the video also features former All Blacks rugby star Dan Carter and racing driver Nico Rosberg, among many others.

Kevin described the project as “a collaboration with truly amazing and inspiring people” and said he was “happy and grateful to be apart of it”.

Kevin has also had huge success this year including winning Best Experimental at the Berlin Music Awards for his work on the video ‘Repetition’ by Max Cooper, who also created the score for the climate awareness video.

The music video beat off competition including efforts by creators of videos for songs by Aloe Blacc and Thom Yorke.

The video was also nominated for ‘Best Animation’ at the UK Music Video Awards alongside the likes of Moby and Coldplay.

Kevin’s work ‘Epoch’ was also recognised by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences in May when his work was named winner at the Webby Awards.

He took the title in the Art and Experimental category.

The twins have been keeping busy since the release of the Imagine for one minute project, having directed an ad for AIB which was released in November.

Kevin said he was proud to get it “on air” given the quick turnaround for the banking advert.

It certainly is a family affair when it comes to the Sligo family, given Kevin has even produced videos musician brother, Pearse.

A video for Pearse’s record Arrow features a visual shot looking out to Coney Island.

Given the McGloughlins’ achievements in what has been a difficult year for everybody, watch this space for 2021.
