Lana raises funds for Cystic Fibrosis

-

A song depicting a truce in the trenches of World War I, has become the subject of a Christmas fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland (CFI). The song, Christmas 1915, was recently recorded by south Sligo singer, Lana Moore.

Lana, who is developing a reputation as someone with a very special voice, recorded the song locally at Ox Mountain Studios in Cloonacool. Chris Stapleton at the studio has encouraged many local singers and musician to record songs over the periods of lockdown during 2020.

“This is my contribution to helping people through the covid crisis” says Chris. “We had a great music session group here in the local pub for many years and suddenly all that came to a crashing halt last March. My idea was to keep this session alive in some way and so I recorded many of the participants in the group.”

Lana chose as her song, Christmas 1915. Lana says: “I used to sing this song at the session each Christmas and so when it came to my turn to record with Chris, and as Christmas was approaching, Christmas 1915, seems the right choice. I have a family member who has benefitted from the service provided by CFI and so that choice was easy to make as well. I hope the song will inspire people to get online and donate to CFI.

The famous song was written by Cormac MacConnell a number of years ago. MacConnell was moved to tears after seeing a TV documentary on the famous unofficial truce and in the space on just one hour, he wrote the lyrics and music for the song. The truce itself was an impromptu cessation in the fighting.

It was organised by the soldiers themselves, both German and British and took place on Christmas night 1915. The anti-war song tells the powerful, if heart-breaking, story of the men who were fighting in the hell of the Great War and seeking, over the course of Christmas, a short-lived oasis of peace.

The song video is available for viewing on the Chris Stapleton Music Facebook Page and on YouTube.
