Woman’s pride at grandchildren’s achievements
A West Sligo grandmother is full of pride astwo of her grandchildren were recognised by Senator Todd Kaminsky for their work in their community in the United States.
Marilyn Nealon, from Skreen, told The Sligo Champion about the work of two of her grandchildren, Connor McGreevy and Grace McGreevy which saw Connor receive the Proclamation from the Senator.
The McGreevys and their friends were recognised for their hard work in helping those in need in their local community of Long Beach, New York through their organisation EAB Cares.
Through the generosity of the local community, the youngsters were able to donate three car loads of food to a local food bank with donations of gift cards too.
Seventeen-year-old Connor received the Proclamation for organising the fundraising drive.
Senator Kaminsky said: “A great state is only as great as those individuals who perform exemplary service on behalf of their community, whether through unique achievement in professional or other endeavours, or simply through a lifetime of good citizenship.
“It is the privilege of this legislative body to honour Connor McGreevy for exemplary service to the community and state upon the occasion of his delivery of donated food and supplies to St. Mary’s Of the Isle in Long Beach.
“Connor McGreevy, through his organisation EAB Cares, has collected both food and funds in order to feed those less fortunate and help others in his community.
“It is the belief of this legislative body that when individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those individuals for the edification and emulation of others.
“Such service, which is truly the lifeblood of the community and the state, so often goes unrecognised and unheralded, now therefore, be it.
“Therefore I, State Senator Todd Kaminsky, recognise that in Connor McGreevy, we have an individual worthy of our highest respect and esteem.”
