N17 RE-ALIGNMENT

The Tubbercurry By-Pass road is very much on the agenda at present, and community groups and individuals are encouraged to investigate the various routes proposed for the new road.

Many people are still unaware of the fact that the road could be very close to their house or farm and you need to get the facts. Make contact with Sligo County Council and check it out on-line, N17 Knock-Collooney where details and maps of all proposals can be viewed.

MENTAL HEALTH PROJECT

Tubbercurry Family Resource Centre, funded through Slaintecare, has started the delivery of a new Social Prescribing Project.

This project for us as a service is about taking a community development approach to mental health and wellbeing.

It is about connecting/re-connecting people with activities/ classes, groups, supports and services in their local community with the aim of improving and protecting each individual’s mental health and wellbeing.

This project gives individuals the time to identify issues impacting on their mental health and wellbeing as well as signposting and supporting them to access appropriate programmes and services which suit their needs and help them to stay well. Activities prescribed can range from community based social groups (women’s group, angling groups, Men’s Shed etc), to Physical activity/exercise, art and creativity, online classes, education, counselling, personal development, self-care and more.

This project works through a referral process and people can self-refer or be referred by their GP or other Clinical or an agency/organisation working with the person or their family.

For more information contact the project co-ordinator, Mary Kilroy, at the Family Resource Centre, Mountain Road Tubbercurry.

GREENWAY UPDATE

Great news recently on progress of the long-awaited Greenway.

Significant progress has been made recently with the appointment by Sligo County Council of an engineer to specifically work on the planning permission issues around converting the Old Railway line section Collooney to Charlestown into a Greenway for walking and cycling.

It is hoped a planning application will be submitted in early to mid-2021 toAn Bord Pleanala and assuming granted, it is hoped work will commence on the project early 2022 with opening for use in early 2023.

Further information will be announced as things develop.
