Knockbeg safety issues
The Knockbeg road in Collooney has ongoing safety issues according to local Sinn Féin Councillor Thomas Healy.
“Following the adoption of my motion to Sligo County Council on this issue calling for increased lighting, road safety and the provision of a footpath I wish to welcome confirmation from the Council that they will seek funding for these works,” stated Cllr Healy.
“Two possible streams of funding have now been identified, the Low Cost Safety Scheme and the Active Travel Grant. I will be working closely with Council officials to ensure that these works will be eligible for funding. There are now four estates on this road with many young children. I have witnessed people having to walk in the middle of the road and children especially are at risk in these dark evenings.
“Resident committees have been raising this issue for two years now, I will be pushing for the Council to get the ground necessary for the provision of essential infrastructure,” he said.
Meanwhile, the recently installed pedestrian crossing opposite the Community Park in Ballygawley urgently needs to be lit up at night as it is a hazard to traffic and pedestrians, Councillor Healy said.
“Unfortunately, neither the two new public lights nor the crossing’s own two lights have been connected to the network as of yet. This has resulted in a number of motorists hitting the raised crossing.”
