The Sligo Champion

Rovers film shines a light on club’s meaning

-

‘SHINE’ a new documentary film about Sligo Rovers shows just how important the club is to fans, the community and even former managers and players.

Produced and filmed by Oisin Moran and Michael Moran, former Sports Editor of The Sligo Champion, ‘Shine’ was released online over the weekend.

The 35 minute documentary features interviews with former players such as Gavin Dykes, Paul ‘Ski’ McGee, Conor O’Grady,

Tony Fagan and more.

Reflecting on joining the club, their fond memories and what it means to them now, these Rovers legends remind people just why the club is so special to everyone.

The documentary also features Joe Martyn, a fan who is even older than the club itself and has seen it all, the good days and the bad.

Club stalwarts such as Anthony Kilfeather are also included to give a background of Rovers’ history and the club’s place in Sligo town and county, including links to Everton FC.

The reaction has so far been huge, as it gets people in the mood for the up and coming season.

It is all the more impressive when it is considered that the film was put together during 2020, when working on anything that involved meeting others was made difficult.

The documentary is available to view on YouTube for free by searching for ‘Shine A Sligo Rovers documentary’.
