MALONE BY HIMSELF

-

“A lot of chic people think that they are an inspiration but it’s the slightly tacky people that I love,” said fashion designer Richard Malone to us, back in the spring of 2015 off the back of his Central Saint Martins graduate show. Five years later and he is truly owning the catwalk regardless of who his muse may be. His 2020 fall show at London Fashion Week was on point, with the clarion call for ethical and sustainable fashion sounding now more than ever. His show notes for his new collection entailed a mission statement outlining the details of his practices with full transparency, right down to the hourly rates (£25 an hour minimum) for the local cutters and tailors he employs. A few days later, he won the International Woolmark Prize, picking up the AU$200,000 grand prize. We’ll let you drop that into xe.com if you must.
