Reck hits double as Bunclody win

-

FORMER COUNTY Minor David Reck found the net twice as HWH-Bunclody completed a miserable weekend for the Volunteers club with a clearcut win in this Junior ‘A’ football championship quarter-final in St. Patrick’s Park, Enniscorthy, on Sunday last.

Their first team exited at the same stage to Rathgarogue-Cushinstown two nights earlier, so this result piled on the agony for the Wexford town crew who failed to score in the last 21 minutes.

HWH-Bunclody, who dropped from Junior ranks last year, will now meet last year’s runners-up Buffers Alley in the semi-final. Reck scored his opening goal in the sixth minute and it was 1-3 to 0-1 before the Vols hit back to trail by a mere 1-4 to 0-4 at the interval.

While the eventual winners picked off the two opening points of the new half, a Jason Kehoe goal in the 39th minute after good work by Cian Brennan and Neil Furlong reduced the gap to 1-6 to 1-4.

However, the Vols didn’t score again and when Reck was set up by Billy Kelly for the second goal at the start of the final quarter, it was effectively game over.
