Big victory for Glynn-Barntown

- JAMES DONOGHUE in Blackwater

GLYNN-BARNTOWN breezed into the last four after comprehensively dismissing the challenge of Oulart-The Ballagh in this Junior ‘A’ hurling championship quarter-final at windy Blackwater on Sunday last.

A strong opening half paved the way victory as they led by 14 points at the break. Paschal Carley goaled twice in the fourth and the eleventh minutes, and on both occasions he whipped a dropping ball around the square to the net.

Carley's second goal had his side leading by 2-3 to just 01 for Oulart-The Ballagh, coming from former Senior player Andrew Kavanagh, and his side was then outscored by seven points to one before the half-time whistle.

The winners started the second period in the same fashion as the first and grabbed quick points from Shane Gubbins and Paschal Carley as Oulart-The Ballagh responded through Kavanagh again.

Ronan Greene then goaled in the eleventh minute of the second-half to ensure the victory for the green and blue, and four minutes later substitute Nigel Usher heaped further misery on their opponents, kicking the ball to the net as Oulart-The Ballagh once more struggled to deal with the dropping ball.

The impressive Jimmer Doyle and Shane Codd added two final points for the winners before a long-range effort from Darragh Brennan sailed all the way into the net, giving Oulart -The Ballagh a late consolation goal before the end.
