Hard-fought win seals semi spot for Glynn-Barntown
GLYNN-BARNTOWN moved into the last four of the New Ross Standard Under-14 hurling championship last week with a hardfought win over Faythe Harriers (6-5 to 1-5) in the last eight. St. Martin's join their District rivals in the semi-final after seeing off Rapparees after extra-time in Piercestown.
In Division 2, Rathgarogue-Cusinstown had too much quality for Liam Mellows, winning by 4-14 to 3-2. Askamore kept their perfect season going with a massive win over St .John's in Páirc Charman (8-15 to 2-3) in Division 3. They will be joined in the last four by Monageer-Boolavogue who saw off Ferns St. Aidan’s (42 to 2-2) in a low-scoring tussle, and Moyeady Bridge Gaels who thrashed Cloughbawn (7-13 to 2-2).
St. Patrick's also built on a great round-robin stage with a 6-18 to 1-1 win over Bannow-Ballymitty in Division 4, and they are joined in the final four by Buffers Alley who had a big win over Our Lady's Island in Monamolin (8-5 to 0-7). In Division 5 12-aside, Adamstown edged past Davidstown-Courtnacuddy in one of the ties of the week (3-6 to 2-6).
Meanwhile, the Wexford People Minor hurling championship Roinn 1 quarter-finals took place last week too. In the championship proper three of the four matches were settled by just a goal. North Wexford Gaels were the big winners against Norman Gaels (5-17 to 1-13).
However, Taghmon-Camross scraped past Oulart-The Ballagh in what was a mild surprise (1-17 to 1-14). Naomh Eanna's win against Crossabeg-Ballymurn also saw third beat second (2-11 to 1-11), but there was no shock as Oylegate-Glenbrien defeated HWH-Bunclody (2-10 to 1-10).
In the shield there were wins for Craanford and Shamrocks over Rathgarogue-Cushinstown and Gusserane in the last eight. Ferns St. Aidan’s will also be in the last four after a walkover, as will Cloughbawn who eased past Monageer-Boolavogue (3-14 to 1-6).
Shelmaliers will face HWH-Bunclody in the Gorey Guardian Juvenile football Premier final after the sides saw off St. Martin's (3-7 to 1-9) and Naomh Eanna (see opposite) respectively. Starlights, who beat Taghmon-Camross (4-7 to 2-8), will face Volunteers, who had a bye, in the Shield final.
1A proved to possess the superior quality in Roinn 1 after three of the four to come out of that side of the draw advanced to the semi-finals. Fourth-places Sarsfields were the side whicho didn't but only lost to Monageer-Boolavogue by two points (2-8 to 1-9).
Elsewhere Cushinstown beat Shamrocks (3-7 to 3-6), Dunbrody Gaels thumped Duffry Rovers (11-12 to 2-6), and Gusserane pummelled Oylegate-Glenbrien (5-15 to 0-2) to move into the last four. On the Shield side, Castletown, Glynn-Barntown and Our Lady's Island are all into the semis.
The Roinn 2 final will be between Clonard and St. Patrick's. The Camolin boys got revenge for a round-robin loss to Geraldine O'Hanrahans by scraping past the New Ross side by the minimum (0-11 to 1-7), while Clonard saw off Réalt na Mara in a tight battle (see above).
In the Shield quarters there were wins for Craanford, St. Mary's (Rosslare) and Davidstown-Courtnacuddy.
