The lady President’s prize was very well supported which was a great tribute to our office holder Collette Furlong in what was the last major competitio­n of the season. The weather was good with the wind picking up a little in the afternoon.

There was a great turn-out with 88 ladies competing for the elegant prizes which were beautiful handbags, scarfs, jewellery and stunning vases. It was a closely-contested competitio­n with Maisie, Elaine and Helen all bringing in scores of 37 points and Maisie winning on the back nine. Well done ladies.

Later that evening Collette was joined by family and friends for a lovely meal prepared by Phelim Byrne Catering, following which she presented her beautiful prizes to the ladies. Collette thanked everyone for all the lovely cards and gifts she received. Collette also thanked everyone who helped in any way towards making her day a memorable one, after which she announced the incoming lady President, Mary O’Leary, and wished her well for the coming year.

Congratula­tions to the ladies of the Boyne Trophy team who beat the K Club in the semi-final in Edenderry on Monday last. The first match went down to the wire with the Wexford ladies taking their opponents to the 20th hole to secure a win. The second match was a comfortabl­e win on the 14th with tremendous golf played by both players.

The last match out went down to a nail-biting finish on the 17th hole, with the Wexford ladies holding their nerve under incredible pressure and sinking a steady putt to have them secure the match. Well done ladies on all your hard work and dedication, it gives a tremendous lift to everyone in the golf club.

Thursday next, August 28, is an 18 holes stableford competitio­n sponsored by The Silver Fox. The presentati­on of prizes for this competitio­n and Thursday, August 7 (Flanagan’s Supermarke­t Castlebrid­ge) will be on at 9.30 p.m.

After a very busy summer we end the season with the President’s prize to the ladies (Dan Cash) which takes place on Tuesday, August 26. The presentati­on of prizes will take place at 9.30 p.m.

The Mid-Leinster District finals will be held in Rossare this Saturday, August 30. We take this opportunit­y to wish everyone involved the very best of luck. There will be a ladies’ singles competiton on the Burrow course on Saturday, August 30.

The main competitio­n of the week was the club singles sponsored by The Yard Restaurant, Wexford. Congratula­tions to Seán Healy Jnr. (15) on posting a magnificen­t score of 39 points from a field of 228. The best conditions were found on Saturday with near-perfect playing conditions.

Those lucky to be out early on Sunday morning escaped the worst of the rain. Next weekend's competitio­n is the Killeen's Service Station singles, sponsored by Sarah and Tony Butler. The timesheet for this competitio­n has opened. This week we have an open ladies’ and gents’ fourball competitio­n on Wednesday, August 27, and the O'Leary Volkswagen ladies’ and gents’ open singles on Friday, August 29.

Wexford Golf Club has been proudly selected to hold this year's County Wexford qualifier for the 2014 Volkswagen Masters to be held on Friday, August 29. This is an open competitio­n with the leading lady and gent to go forward to the national final in Powerscour­t Golf Club on Thursday, September 11. The national final promises to be a great day for all involved. Participan­ts will receive breakfast on arrival, followed by a golf clinic before the main event. A barbequeQ and prizegivin­g will conclude the day.

A 2014 Ryder Cup Sweepstake €2 and €5 draw is now available in the Pro Shop.

Congratula­tions to Jane Duignan for winning the weekly €100 in the Find the Joker draw. The jackpot now stands at €3,904. The Joker draw is open to members and visitors and takes place every Sunday at 8 p.m. in the clubhouse.

The competitio­ns committee have decided to close off all competitio­ns on the timesheet at 12 midnight on the eve of the competitio­n. Any member wishing to get their name on the timesheet will need to contact the Pro Shop and they will accommodat­e you where possible.

Monday madness continues with a special ‘ golf and meal’ deal on selected Mondays, details of which can be found on the club website at www.wexfordgol­fclub.ie.

A total of 73 players enjoyed this open Seniors event. The winning scores returned by John and Sandra were exceptiona­l given the chilly conditions and speedy greens. Thanks to Carmel and Alan Howard for their sponsorshi­p and for the ‘Masters’ related prizes which will be enjoyed by the winners.

The 47 players who competed in the August medal competitio­n were faced by very testing weather conditions. This is demonstrat­ed by the C.S.S. of 75. Well done Kevin on returning a below par winning nett score and pipping Patrick by one shot. Congratula­tions also to the Class prize winners Patrick, John and Nicholas.

ROSSLARE

On Sunday last the President, Dan Cash, presented his prize to the members of Rosslare. One hundred and eighty took part and a fantastic score of 66 won the day.

In spite of a strong north-westerly wind and taking a seven at the first, the winner, Conor Shaw (19), recovered to bring in a great score.

He had three shots to spare over Ted Tierney (8) with Ken Maher (12) on the same score.
