CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Ballymore man Brendan Wright who competed in the Hardman Triathlon 2014 which took place in Killarney on Saturday 23rd August. The triathlon consisted of a 3.8K swim on the Killarney Lakes followed by 180k bike ride around the Ring of Kerry and then a 42.2k run around Killarney National Park.

With a 6.30am start on the freezing cold lakes of Killarney the swim proved to be a very difficult and challenging element of the event. Making up great ground on the bike route while taking in some breathtaking views along the picturesque Ring of Kerry (travelling supporters enjoyed the view anyway) Brendan was just head down and pedalling strong!) headed into the marathon run just before 4pm.

Not too long after 9.30pm the finish line was in sight with family and friends cheering and encouraging him on along the last really tough 3k he completed the event in 15hrs 7mins, crossing the finished line cheered on by family and friends.

Nicola and Austin Gregg who competed in the Olympic distance competition on the same day (1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run) finished their three elements in three hours approximately. Sandra Goldsmith competing in the team event of the Hardman competition completed her swim element (3.8k) in 1hr 23 mins.
