Congratulations to the versatile Conall Clancy who won his whistling competition at the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Sligo recently.

ST. IBAR’S/SHELMALIER

Our camogie highlight in the past week was for our Under-10 girls who were thrilled to play a big part in the programme of events at the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior championship semi-final between Wexford and Cork in Semple Stadium on Saturday last. It was a fantastic experience for them as they assembled in front of the tunnel at the old stand and formed a guard of honour, along with Cloughbawn and two Cork clubs, Sliabh Rua and Tracton.

Our girls really did the club proud, namely: Niamh Hearne, Saoirse Banville, Rebecca Fanning, Clara O'Leary, Muireann Lanigan, Keeva Campbell, Danielle O'Leary, Lucy Roche, Grace Harding-Kenny, Nicole Gillen, Anna Dempsey and Emma Flynn. A big thank you to their mentors Austin Hearne, Stanley O'Leary and Sheila Roche who accompanied them, and to Emma Hearne who looked after all the arrangements to make sure the girls had the best day ever. They played Sliabh Rua in a mini-game at half-time and it ended in a scoreless draw.

Well done to our Under-14 team on securing their place in the Premier league semi-final with an impressive 4-4 to 0-2 win over Oulart-The Ballagh in the play-off in Hollymount on Monday last.

Hard luck to our Intermediate team as they lost out by a goal to St Martin's on Wednesday last (3-4 to 2-4) after a great effort.

Well done to our Under-12 Blue team on a great victory over Shamrocks by 4-0 to 0-1 with a strong second-half performance in the mini-league finals held in Hollymount on Friday last. We were delighted to host the finals and all went very well. Thanks to all who helped in any way.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Under-12 Red team mini-league final has been postponed on Tuesday, August 26, to a date to be confirmed.

Due to football games this week, the Under14 camogie league semi-final versus Rathnure has been changed to Monday, September 1, at 6.30 p.m. with the venue to be advised.

The Under-10 mini-league final will take place on Sunday next, August 31, in Farmleigh against Castletown-Liam Mellows Maroon at 10 a.m.

Well done to our county Senior ladies as their late goal earned them a replay this Saturday, August 30. We are a proud club to have Kate Kelly as team captain, and Katrina Parrock also in the forwards, while Aine Lacey, Ciara Donohoe, Mag Kelly and Bridget Curran were part of the panel. Best of luck in the replay.

Hard luck to Niamh Walsh and the Wexford county Minor team on going down to Kilkenny by 4-10 to 1-12 in the Leinster championship round robin in Piercestown recently. They still have a chance to reach the final as games follow against Dublin and Offaly.

Congratulations to Ciara Neville and the Wexford footballers who had a great win over Louth in the All-Ireland Junior championship semi-final in Ashbourne on Sunday last.

Please come along and support the girls. This is the fourth year that a Vols girls’ team has reached the county final which is a great achievement.

FAYTHE HARRIERS

Our Junior ‘B’ team play the Sistrict championship semi-final versus Blackwater tonight (Tuesday) in Ballymurn at 6.45 p.m. The winners play either Kilmore or Crossabeg in the final.

Our Seniors play Glynn-Barntown in their final group game on Sunday next at 3 p.m. in Wexford Park. The result is largely immaterial as we cannot avoid being in the relegation final now, but still a win is vital before we go into that final match.

Our Junior team have already qualified for their championship quarter-final in advance of their final group game. We play Ferns in this group game on Saturday next in Hollymount with a 2 p.m. throw-in.

On Friday our Junior ‘C’ camogie team took on Glynn-Barntown in a championship game. We took an early lead after a goal from Therese Murphy, however a much stronger Glynn side soon took control after that.

Our girls never gave up and fought hard right up to the end with some encouraging scores from Natasha Walsh and Sinéad Goff. The game ended on a final scoreline of Glynn-Barntown 2-9, Harriers 2-3.

Our Juveniles have qualified for the Premier Division county semi-final and they will face a very tough task against a Shelmaliers side which topped the group and went through their campaign with a one hundred per cent win record. There is no fixture yet on this game. Our lads prepared with a good win in Kilkenny over the weekend against The Rower-Inistioge and have other practice games now lined up.

Our Under-14 team went down to Glynn-Barntown in the quarter-final of the Division 1 championship last weekend on a scoreline of 6-5 to 1-5. We battled throughout and ten minutes into the second-half only trailed by a point, but the Glynn lads were far stronger and bigger than our lads and have deservedly qualified for the county semi-final now.

Many thanks to the mentors who looked after the lads during the year and to the players who put in such a big effort, and especially to the parents who allow their children to play with our club. Hopefully we will come back stronger next year.

Our Under-12s have qualified for the Division 1 semi-final and were due to play Craanford last night (Monday). There will be a report on the game in next week's notes.

For all updated news, under-age games, fixtures, results, lotto, photos etc. with the club, check out our website at www.faytheharriers.com or follow us on Twitter or on our Facebook account for regular updates of club activity.

Congratulations to Rhys Clarke and his Wexford Under-21 team-mates on their superb victory over Galway on Saturday last, and best of luck now lads for the final versus Clare.

GLYNN-BARNTOWN

Our two Under-10 boys’ teams competed in the Buffers Alley blitz. The blue team made the shield final, having beaten Ballygarrett, Crannford and Buffers Alley en route. They came up against an older, stronger Ballinastragh team, losing a tight game.

The green team lost to Mount Leinster Rangers, but then beat Kilmacud Crokes and the Shelmaliers, just missing a place in the top final on score difference. The green team went on to beat Ferns in the shield final.

Our Under-12 girls had a great week. The Green team beat Rathnure in their final while the Blue team drew with Geraldine O’Hanrahans and will play a replay in the next few weeks. Both games were hosted in Killurin. It is fantastic to be able to field two teams in this age group, and great credit goes to Sinéad, Tommy and all who help out.

The Under-14 girls play their camogie league semi-final versus St. Martin’s in Killurin on Thurday, August 28, at 6.30 p.m.

The Junior team had another great win over Faythe Harriers on Friday evening with the on fire Deborah Fitzharris scoring 2-6! The players then raced out to Killurin to take part in the ice bucket challenge with the G.A.A. club in aid of M.N.D. (see the club Facebook page).

Good luck to all our members heading back into a new school year.

Well done to Susie McGovern and her county Senior camogie team-mates on their drawn game against Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday, and best of luck in the replay on Saturday next.

Well done also to Gary Moore and the Wexford Under-21 hurling team on reaching the All-Ireland final.

Our lotto jackpot reaches €6,500 on Wednesday night. Don't miss out.

CLONARD LADIES

Well done to our Under-14 girls who put in another great performance in Kilmore on Thursday night in the semi-final. Despite losing the game, the girls put in the best performance of their season in an outstanding display of teamwork and skills from start to finish.

Collette Butler was very proud of each and every one of one of our girls who played their part: Libby Bierney, Simone Kemp, Ruth Hendrick, Katelyn Murphy, Holly Sinnott, Lauren Roche, Lauren Gordon, Tamzin Howell, Chelsey Pitman, Alannah Anglim, Niamh Tormey, Sarah Siggins, Jemma Dooley, Rebecca Dowdall, Ciara Brennan, Laura Kavanagh, Tara Foley, Nicole Tierney, Casey Jane Jordan. Clonard would like to wish Kilmore and St. Martin’s the very best of luck in the final.

The Under-16 girls travelled out to Glynn-Barntown on Saturday for a fun blitz day. The girls would like to thank Glynn-Barntown for the invitation as they had a great day of fun and gained a few more games under their belt for the upcoming semi-final on Wednesday. The venue and opposing team will be texted out ASAP as fixtures are waiting on a play-off to be played.

Our Gaelic4Girls will finish off their fantastic busy season on Wednesday evening with a fun training session with Nicole, Shirley, Kirsty and Brendan at 5.45 p.m. Our Under-10 and Under-12 girls have played 21 games, an Under-8 blitz in Taghmon, a Leinster blitz in Carlow, and the icing on the cake was two teams playing five games each in Croke Park at the national blitz day.

Both our Under-12 teams made it to the semi-final stages and our Under-10 girls had a brilliant season also. It was a hard task for Shirley, Denise, Nicole and Kirsty to juggle all the teams’ fixtures/players but they have to be commended for their dedication, commitment and motivation which they brought to the girls over the very busy season.

Well done to Niamh Butler and her county team-mates as they won their All-Ireland semifinal versus Louth on Sunday to secure a place in the All-Ireland final on Sunday, September 29, versus New York. A reminder for all our G4G parents to send off your voucher for family tickets for the final before August 31 as the Wexford girls would appreciate Clonard’s suppport on the day.

Our Senior women will play Fethard in the Junior ‘A’ championship final in St. Patrick’s Park on Sunday next, August 31, at 11 a.m. This team has trained very hard since February, and their main goal was to reach the championship final which they have achieved.

BLACKWATER

The Junior footballers are thorough to the semi-finals of the championship after a twopoint win over the Shelmaliers in awful conditions. Ger Lynch was the hero, scoring two crucial frees to get Blackwater back level in the second-half after only scoring a point in the first. A great second-half by the defence kept the Shels scoreless. The lads will play Rathgarogue-Cushinstown in the semis with no date fixed yet.

The Junior ‘B’ hurlers play the District semifinal on Tuesday at 6.45 p.m. in Ballymurn against Faythe Harriers.

The Minor hurlers had an excellent victory on Wednesday last, beating Duffry Rovers by four points They now have reached the county semi-final.

The Under-12 footballers went down on Tuesday by four points to HWH Bunclody in the county semi-final.

The Under-16 footballers lost out by just a point in the quarter-final to Glynn-Barntown.

There are some big fixtures this week. The Under-14 hurlers play in the quarter-finals against Craanford on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Craanford. Then on Sunday it's the turn of our Intermediate hurlers who play Craanford in the last round of the championship. The lads really need a win to make sure of a place in the next round. Thrown-in in Bellefield is at 1.30 p.m.

Huge congratulations to Robert O'Leary and Kieran Roche who won the Queensland Hurling Championship with Na Fianna over the weekend. Paul O'Leary was on the losing team, The Emeralds.

SHELMALIERS

Pride of place this week goes to our Senior footballers who captured the league title Sunday in Wexford Park, overcoming Adamstown by 1-12 to 1-9. Joint captains Brian Malone and Aidan Cash received the cup on behalf of the team, with the goal coming from a Craig McCabe free. It was a great team effort.

Our Junior footballers are out of the championship after being beaten by Blackwater in Oylegate Sun evening by 0-7 to 1-2. The goal came from Willie O'Shaughnessy. Blackwater had a strong second-half after trailing by 1-2 to 0-1 at the break.

Our Senior hurlers will play St. Anne's on Saturday, August 30, at 6.30 p.m. in Wexford Park in the fifth round of the championship.

Well done to James Cash, Screen, and Simon Donohoe, Curracloe, who were both on the Wexford Under-21 hurling team which beat Galway and now have the thrill of an All-Ireland final to look forward to.

Congratulations to our Under-16 footballers who gave an efficient display to account for St. Martin’s in the semi-final of the Premier championship. St. Martin’s raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead which could have been worse but for a fine save from Adam Howlin.

However, the Shels roared into the game with a brilliant goal, finished by Dan Campbell who was also narrowly wide with another goal attempt. Shels then got another point to move closer before Conor Hearne finished the firsthalf scoring with an outrageous point from somewhere way beyond hill 16 on the touchline! The half-time score was 1-3 to 0-6.

An early goal from St. Martin’s saw them take the lead again, however Craig converted a penalty and Ross Banville finished the scoring for Shels with a neat point. St. Martin’s then threw everything at us but it was not enough and we face Bunclody in the final.

Mark Power, Nathan Ferguson-Murphy and Aaron O'Neill did some great work in defence while Dan and Rocky did great work up front. A mention also to the managers who had the team well prepared and they will have even more work now to prepare to face a Bunclody team on a mission in the final. All reports are on www.shelmaliers.ie There was no lotto jackpot winner. Numbers drawn were 3, 19, 24 and 29. One match three winner, Peg Nolan, wins €200. The next jackpot is €15,000.

ST. MARTIN’S

Our Under-12 footballers beat Horeswood on Tuesday last to qualify for the county final. While the win was great, of far more importance was the safe recovery by Luke Kavanagh from a concussion he suffered during the game. Luke was brought to hospital as a precaution but he’s thankfully home now and well with his family.

The Under-14 hurlers then played the Rapparees on Thursday last at home in their championship quarter-final and they produced one of the best comebacks seen in a long time. At half-time they were 3-3 to 1-1 down but the lads re-grouped to tie up the game at 4-5 each and push it into extra-time. In the added period, young Ben Morris came up with a great goal, cutting in from the right, flicking the ball over his opponent and finishing to the top of the net. The boys held on to win and now meet Oulart in the semi-finals.

The Under-16 footballers meanwhile lost to Shelmaliers on Monday in their championship semi-final on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-9. Next up for them is the hurling semi-final, against Naomh Eanna, in early September. The Minor hurlers meanwhile beat O’Loughlin Gaels from Kilkenny in a challenge match in New Ross.

Tonight sees a huge match for the club as our Under-21 hurlers take on Rapparees in the county final at 6.30 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Park, Enniscorthy. After a tough defeat in last year’s final, we hope that the lads can go all the way this year.

In camogie, our Intermediate team had a good win over St. Ibar’s in the championship and, with one group game left, it looks like a county semi-final spot has been secured. Our Under-12s have continued their steady improvement and, although the second team was beaten in their final by Kilmore on Friday last, they gave a very good account of themselves and their mentors were very proud. The first team has yet to play St. Ibar’s in their final game that has had to be re-fixed due to Community Games in Athlone.

The Under-10s have their finals to play this Friday coming. Our Under-16 camogie team came away with a very good win over Craanford in horrible conditions at home on Sunday evening by 4-8 to 4-3. They had previously been beaten in their away game so well done.

The Senior quarter-final due to be played tomorrow has been postponed due to the inter-county camogie replay so please keep an eye out for the re-fixture. Well done to Noeleen, Lisa and Linda on the dramatic draw on Saturday against Cork. Huge congratulations also to our own camogie manager J.J. Doyle on his great work with the Under-21 hurling team which of course includes our own Jack O’Connor and Luke White.

In football, the Under-12 girls’ team have qualified for the shield final after a great game against Clonard. It really was a game that could have gone either way but our girls came out winners on a scoreline of 3-7 to 3-5. The final takes place on Sunday, September 7.

The Under-14 girls met Crossabeg on Thursday last at home in their semi-final and won well, 4-11 to 1-4. Saturday next, August 30, is a big date for our Intermediate ladies as their shield final is at 4.30 p.m. in Taghmon.
