CAMOGIE

The St. Ibars/Shelmaliers U10`s were thrilled to play a big part in the programme of events at the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland senior camogie championship semifinal between Wexford and Cork in Semple Stadium on Saturday last. It was a fantastic experience for them as they assembled in front of the tunnel at the old stand and formed a guard of honour, along with Cloughbawn and two Cork clubs.

Well done to the Under 14 team who secured their place in the Premier league semi-final with an impressive 4-4 to 0-2 win over Oulart/The Ballagh in the play off in Hollymount on Monday evening last. Match reports on www.shelmaliers.ie. Hard luck to the Intermediate team who lost out by a goal to St Martin's on Wednesday evening last 3-4 to 2-4 after a great effort.

Well done to the U12 Blue team who had a great victory over Shamrock's 4-0 to 0-1 with a strong second half performance in the mini-league finals held in Hollymount on Friday evening. The U12 Red team mini-league final has been postponed. New date to be confirmed.

Due to football games this week, the U14 camogie semi-final against Rathnure has been changed to Monday, September 1 at 6.30 p.m at a venue to be advised. The U10 mini-leagues take place on Saturday, August 30.

Well done to the county senior ladies as the late goal earned them a replay this Saturday, August 30. The Ibars are proud to have Kate Kelly as team captain, with Katrina Parrock, Aine Lacey, Ciara Donohoe, Mag Kelly and Bridget Curran part of the panel. Hard luck to Niamh Walsh and the Wexford county minor team who went down to Kilkenny by 4-10 to 1-12 in the Leinster championship round robin in Piercestown recently. They still have a chance to reach the final as games follow against Dublin and Offaly.

Congratulations to Ciara Neville and Wexford footballers who had a great win over Louth in the All-Ireland Junior championship semi-final in Ashbourne on Sunday last.

GAA CLUB NOTES

Pride of place this week goes to the Shels senior footballers who captured the league title on Sunday afternoon last in Wexford Park by overcoming Adamstown on a 1-12 to 1-9 scoreline. Joint captains Brian Malone and Aidan Cash received the cup on behalf of the team. Craig McCabe was the goal scorer.

The junior footballers are out of the championship after being beaten by Blackwater in Oylegate. They went down 1-2 to 0-7. Goal scorer here was Willie O'Shaughnessy. Blackwater had a strong second half after trailing 1-2 to a point at the break.

The senior hurlers will play St. Anne's on Saturday next, August 30 at 6.30 p.m. in Wexford Park in the fifth round of the championship. Well done to James Cash, Screen and Simon Donohoe, Curracloe, who were on the Wexford Under 21 hurling team that defeated Galway and now have the thrill of an All-Ireland final to look forward to.

Congratulations to the U16 footballers who gave an efficient display to account for St. Martins in the semi-final of the premier football championship. St. Martins raced into a 5 point to 1 lead which could have been worse but for a fine save from Adam Howlin. However, the Shels then roared into the game with a brilliant goal, finished to the net by Dan Campbell who was also narrowly wide with another goal attempt. The Shels then got another point to move closer before Conor Hearne finished the first half scoring with an outrageous point from somewhere way beyond hill 16 on the touchline. The half time score was 1-3 to 0-6.

An early goal from St. Martins saw them take the lead again, however Craig converted a penalty and Ross Banville finished the scoring for Shels with a neat point. St. Martins then threw everything at the Shels but it was not enough and Shels now face Bunclody in the final. Mark Power, Nathan Ferguson Murphy and Aaron O'Neill did some great work in defence while Dan and Rocky worked well up front. A mention also to the managers who had the team well prepared and they will have even more work now to prepare to face a Bunclody team on a mission in the final. Reports on www.shelmaliers.ie

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week. The numbers drawn were 3,19,24,29. There was one match winner, Peg Nolan who won €200. The next Jackpot stands at €15,000.
