Wexford’s young fighters are honoured at civic reception
TWO of Wexford’s top kickboxers were honoured with a civic reception at the Irish National Heritage Park following their individuals wins in the WKC world championships in Orlando.
Anna Nolan and Dale White from Wexford Kung Fu and Kickboxing Club made a victorious return from Florida last November armed with numerous medals. Oylegate’s Anna Nolan fought in the girls’ under-12 section in both points sparring and continuous sparring. She won all of her fights to take gold in both events before going forward to scoop silver as part of the Irish girls team. The determined fighter, who has been training since she was six-years-old, also saw victory in all of the team events.
Meanwhile, Dale White from Whitemill Road took home gold in the continuous sparring and in the kung fu sets competition, along with silver in the points sparring section. The success came not long after wins in the W.A.K.O. European championship. Most recently, the sixth year CBS student also won the Beat FM April Sport Star Award.
Chief Instructor of Wexford Kung Fu and Kickboxing Club Bobby O’Neill said that the pair had ‘fantastic wins’.
‘Dale had been fighting well for a number of years and was hotly tipped to take home a medal but to bring home two is just above and beyond what was expected. It was brilliant,’ he said.
‘Anna is a young fighter who has improved dramatically over the last couple of years. Again, we hoped she would bring a medal away but to take home two is a above and beyond all expectations.’
‘ The Chief Referee said that Anna’s fight was the best he had ever seen in children’s kickboxing,’ he added. ‘It was a fantastic achievement for both of them.’
