1MAGIC OF THE MUSICALS: Everyone will be dancing in the aisles and singing in their seats as the Magic of the Musicals concert returns to Wexford for yet another year on Sunday June 5. Starring top performers such as Naoimh Penston, Tony Carty, Maggs Jacob and James McDermot, the evening in Clayton Whites Hotel will be brimming with classic tunes from everyone’s favourite musicals . The event will serve as a fundraiser for 13th Wexford Scout Group’s new hall. It is a family event with songs to suit people of all ages and plenty of spot prizes from local businesses to boot. A sprinkling of special guests are sure to add to the excitement on the night. Last year’s event was a sell-out so tickets are sure to fly out the door fast. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets can be bought from Clayton Whites Hotel, through Wexford Arts Centre and from Wexford County Council and cost from €11 to €17 per person. 2WORKSHOP: After the successful Beatles singing and lunch workshop, The National Opera House introduces an exciting new event on Thursday, June 2. This workshop – Relax into Summer with Abba – will provide both singers and non-singers an opportunit­y to come together in a relaxing environmen­t and sing under the leadership of vocal specialist Elizabeth Drwal. She promises that there will be something for every voice. Sing the songs learn the harmonies, then eat the lunch. A pinch of Swedish elegance mixed with Greek warmth. 3FERNS BARN DANCE: This takes place on Saturday, June 4, in Bolger’s Grain Store from 9pm until late. The night will feature music by Audio Circus, a DJ and a barbecue with a late bar. Tickets are just €15 per person. The barn dance is being organised by Ferns St Aidan’s GAA club and it is in aid of the clubhouse developmen­t fund. Tickets are available from any committee member, online at www.fernsgaa.com or on the door.

4IAN BARRY ALBUM LAUNCH: Singersong­writer Ian Barry will unveil his new music to the masses at an album launch in Bean n’Berry on Thursday June 2. ‘The Adventures of Angel, Slash and Gunga Din’ is the long-awaited second album from the popular artist. The upcoming gig is the latest in the Wexford venue’s regular series of Quayside Sessions. No cover charge on the night. Doors open at 9 p.m.

5DARRAGH DARCY MEMORIAL DRIVE: Vehicles of all shapes and sizes are getting set for the Darragh Darcy Memorial Drive which takes place at Naomh Eanna GAA grounds, Gorey, on Sunday, June 5. Entry for vehicles is €10. They will set off at midday on a run around South Wicklow and North Wexford before returning to the centre where there will be a family fun day with bubble football, face painting, music, a barbecue, an auction and raffle. The event is being held to raise funds for Console and CMRF Crumlin in conjunctio­n with Drive4Char­ity.

6LUAN PARLE: Wicklow singer songwriter Luan Parle will grace the stage at Wexford Arts Centre when she brings her intimate acoustic set to the venue on June 4. Accompanie­d by Enniscorth­y guitarist Clive Barnes, the Meteor Award Winner will entertain Wexford crowds with songs from her catalogue as well as material from her upcoming EP release. Songs will include her iTunes number one selling singles ‘Day is Done’ and ‘Roll the Dice’, as well as her biggest hit ‘Ghost’. This rare and special night of music will kick off at 8 p.m. Tickets cost from €12 to €15.

7CAPE TOWN OPERA: The group begins its European summer season with a recital on June 1 at the National Opera House with an inspiring compilatio­n of opera, gospel and African folk music. The six CTO singers performing in the recital are drawn from the production of Mandela Trilogy which makes its debut at Italy’s Ravenna Festival on June 9 and will tour the United Kingdom and Ireland in August. This recital marks Cape Town Opera’s premiere and the debut of South African classical vocalists at Ireland’s National Opera House and at London’s worldrenow­ned Wigmore concert hall.
