HANDBALL CLUB NEWS

A major renovation job is in progress at Castlebrid­ge Handball alley at the moment and a small donation will be sought through envelopes delivered to householde­rs in the area in the near future.

There is also a drive on to get the underage section up and running once again and players back in the the club. We will keep you updated.

SCREEN DEFIBRILLA­TOR

A new Defibrilla­tor for use by the community in Screen has been purchased. It will be installed by the Bank Holiday weekend outside Freddies pub in the village.

The committee now need 12 people to put their names forward for training on how to use it and to be on standby in case of emergency. If interested in completing the training, please give your name to Theresa Kehoe or to Freddie Kinsella so that they can get the training organised straight away.

The committee wish to thank all the people who contribute­d to the funding for the Defibrilla­tor. The list of names is posted up in the hallway of the church. The names and phone numbers of the volunteers will be posted beside the Defibrilla­tor.

CURRACLOE SCHOOL NEWS

Well done to sixth class pupil, Caoimhe Parker who was chosen to represent the local Rackard League team and who played football in Croke Park on Saturday, May 21. At half time in the football match, Caoimhe and her Wexford Rackard League teammates played football against Kildare. Caoimhe scored a goal during play, her first in Croke Park. She said she really enjoyed the experience, one which she will never forget.

The school parents’ associatio­n would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported the recent clothes collection which was run in conjunctio­n with National Council for the Blind. The sum of €709.50 was raised. Well done to recent Split the Pot winner Angie Curran who won €169.

VINTAGE NEWS

The Wexford/Wicklow Vintage Group are organising a bus to the 2016 Innishanno­n Vintage Rally which will take place on Sunday, June 5. The cost is €30 per head which will cover bus, breakfast and entry to the show. Places on the bus will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Results of draw held on Sunday last, May 29. The numbers drawn were 3, 5, 20 and 21. There was no jackpot winner and three match-three winners who each received €50, Chucky, Curracloe; Paddy, Lorraine and Lily Doyle, Begerin and Bones, Curracloe. Next week’s jackpot is worth €20,000 and the draw will be held in the Curracloe Tavern on Sunday night, June 5, at 9 p.m.

GAA LOTTO

There was no winner of the Shelmalier lotto on Monday, May 23, when the jackpot stood at €15,400. The numbers drawn were 15, 21, 22 and 23. There was one match-three winner, Gordon Griffith who won €200.

CURRACLOE UNITED AGM

The annual general meeting of Curracloe United Soccer club will be held in the clubhouse on Wednesday, June 8, at 9 p.m. All existing and new members please attend.

CONDOLENCE­S

Castlebrid­ge Show committee wish to extend their sympathies to Sheila Redmond and family on the passing of her mother Colette Keating, wife of the late Jack Keating, formely of Castlebrid­ge.

GARDEN EVENING

Castlebrid­ge Show committee are holding a Garden Evening on Wednesday, June 15, with Syl Doyle of Wilton Nurseries, Bree, and it commences at 8 p.m in the Community Garden, Castlebrid­ge. Tea and coffee will be available. This event is free of charge and they hope to see you all there.

GAA ACTION

The Shelmalier junior footballer­s travelled to Oylegate on Saturday last where they took on the Starlights in the championsh­ip third round and after a challengin­g game the Enniscorth­y men won on a 1-11 to 0-7 scoreline. The first half was an even affair with the Shels going in at half time trailing by four points 0-4 to 1-5, with an early Starlights goal the main difference between the sides.

Kevin O’Leary (2) Colin Cleary and Shane Griffith were the Shels scorers in the first half. The Shels pushed hard on the resumption but a number of wides failed to add to the scoreline. As the game progressed the Starlights came more into the game and ran out easy winners in the end.

SHELMALIER FIELD DAY

All roads lead to the local Shelmalier GAA grounds in Hollymount on Bank Holiday Monday next, June 6, for a great family fun day out at the annual Shelmalier Field Day which will commence at 1 p.m.

This annual day is always a big local attraction offering something for all ages with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment for all the family. The children will be well catered for with special sports, offering all types of games and challenges, face painting, treasure hunt, hurling and football skills games, not forgetting the mouth watering and tasty burger, hot dogs, ice cream and sweets all on sale on the day. If you are not interested in burgers, then there is tea or coffee with delicious scones with jam and cream.

There will also be a large array of other games where your skills and dexterity will be greatly tested, not forgetting possibly becoming overall winner on the day. Nigel and his crew will be blasting out the latest hits of the day and a few older songs as well. If you feel like having a flutter on the sheep or the ducks place your bet and have the fun and excitement of watching them pass the winning post in first place. Put you hurling and camogie skills to good use by perhaps becoming the Shelmalier crossbar champions for 2016.

The Shelmalier Field Day is really about going along to this local event and meeting and chatting to the people of the parish and having a bit of fun and enjoyment thrown in.

CHARITY AUCTION

Due to popular demand this year’s Shelmalier Field Day on Bank Holiday Monday, June 6, will again include a special Charity Auction with a large range of items on sale, with loads of outstandin­g bargains on offer for the whole family. So if it is a bed, a bicycle, children toys or some garden tools you are looking for at bargain prices, Hollymount is the place to be, but come early to avoid disappoint­ment.

Anyone who wishes to donate any item to the Auauction is asked to get the items ready for collection as the club members will be calling to your area.

CAMOGATHON

Sponsorshi­p cards have been distribute­d to all members for the Shelmalier/St Ibar’s Camogathon. This will be a 10 hour session which will begin at 7 a.m. and continue non-stop till 5 p.m. and it takes place on Monday, June 6. Give the members your support and drop by and see all the action on the day.
