Children wave goodbye to bus driver Paddy in song
BUS driver Paddy Mulligan is the pride of Taghmon as far as the children of the village’s national school are concerned.
After 38 years behind the wheel of the bus giving dedicated service to Taghmon National School, Paddy recently made his last trip along the local highways and by-ways ahead of his well-earned retirement.
He was a much-loved bus driver, who ferried the kids on a daily basis. He was an extremely patient, pleasant man, who always wore a smile on his face, and the children loved him, and enjoyed his light heartedness.
To mark his retirement, the schoolchildren celebrated in style and pupils from 6th class composed a song to his honour, ‘Paddy Mulligan The Pride of Taghmon’. The Ceoltóri Munna school group provided the music, the children made a presentation to the man himself, and the parents’ council provided the teas and refreshments. ‘Paddy Mullligan The Pride of Taghmon’ is printed below: You may travel from Trinity Right on to Slevoy And then right back to Taghmon Chorus And where would you see a bus driver like he
Paddy Mulligan the pride of Taghmon, Me Boys,
Paddy Mulligan the pride of Taghmon
He travels along roads avoiding pot holes
Screaming children he takes in his stride Chorus And where would you see a bus driver like he
Paddy Mulligan the pride of Taghmon, Me Boys,
Paddy Mulligan the pride of Taghmon
He throws out sweets to those who sit in their seats His lollipops an endless supply Chorus And where would you see a bus driver like he
Paddy Mulligan the pride of Taghmon, Me Boys,
Paddy Mulligan the pride of Taghmon
And now he’s retiring, O what will we do O how can he be replaced? Chorus And where would you see a bus driver like he
Paddy Mulligan the pride of Taghmon, Me Boys,
Paddy Mulligan the pride of Taghmon
