Doris Busher, nee Newport, 82, of Furziestown, Tacumshane, passed away at her home on May 5 2016.

She was the youngest of 16 born to James and Catherine Newport, Ploodboher, Tomhaggard and was raised in Tacumshane by her aunt and uncle, John and Elizabeth Sinnott.

Doris married Richard (Dick) in August 1955 and only last summer they celebrated 60 years of married life with family and friends at a special mass and celebration.

Doris was very much involved in the community of Tacumshane, of which she was very proud, serving on the local parish council and involved in the setting up of Tacumshane Scout Group. She had an avid interest in local history and literature and wrote articles for Treasures of Tacumshane. She also gave local history tours during the bi-centenary celebrations.

Doris was also involved in the wider community. She taught adult literacy classes and played an active part in the ICA. Like most ladies of her age, she could knit, sew, embroider, quilt and patchwork. She had a passion for dancing and music, teaching her children to dance in the kitchen at an early age.

Doris was a determined and independent lady and having raised her family at the age of 60, she decided to start her solo travels of the world. She travelled first to Europe and then further afield to Singapore and Australia. In her seventies, she decided to learn how to swim and also continued to travel, again to Australia and then to America Washington, New York, Boston and Ohio where she visited the graves and families of her deceased uncles.

Doris was an affectionate and loving mother and wife, raising two boys and three girls. She was extremely proud of her children, 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She is sorely missed by her husband Dick, brother Ritchie Tomhaggard, her sisters, Sr. Veronica St John of God Convent Wexford and Carmel Lewis Wales; her children Chris, Liz, Dorothy, Richard and Veronica; her sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
