Rising star Nick reaches new heights

- By

RTE presenter and Kilmuckridge native Nick Sheridan is rising to higher heights since he won the Rising Star Award in the European television awards, the Prix CIRCOM Gala Awards.

The 24-year-old former St Peter’s student, who presents RTE’s news2day programme for younger viewers, scooped the award which looks to recognise the excellence of young on-screen talent.

His prize includes an internship at a regional broadcaster in another European country, worth a value of €3,000.

Commenting on his recent win, the presenter and journalist: ‘I’m over the moon to be selected as the Prix Circom Rising Star. It’s a great honour to be chosen for this European award.

‘I like to feel also that it’s a special recognition of the work done on bringing news to young people in a fun, informative and engaging way. A massive thanks to the news2day team, and to all the cameramen who work with us so creatively every day.’

Nick was presented with his award trophy at the Prix Awards Gala in Plovdiv, Bulgaria recently.

This isn’t the first major award that Nick has won.

In 2009, he was named Young Irish Filmmaker of the Year and travelled to Korea for the Seoul International Film Festival.

Nick studied journalism in Dublin City University before he took up a role with Newstalk and later with TV3. He began working with RTE in August 2014.
