-

Gorey Library was a hub of activity last Thursday morning when Cllr Malcolm Byrne launched Wexford Public Library’s new eBooks and eResources services.

Wexford County Council Library Service has expanded its offering to the public, and now has eBooks, eAudio Books, eMagazines and a whole suite of online resources available to its members to enjoy for free from the library’s website.

Library card holders can borrow popular digital media anytime, anywhere, by visiting the website at www.wexford.ie/ library. They can now borrow titles with a valid library card, and read or listen to them on all major computers and devices, including iPhone, iPad, Nook, Android phones and tablets.

eBooks can be read immediately on any device with an internet browser and all titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees.

Also part of the new suite of eResources is an education service offering online courses and an online language learning service.

‘I am delighted that Wexford Public Libraries are now offering such a wide range of online services, with flexible access to popular book and magazine titles from any device, where ever you are, day or night,’ said Cllr Byrne.

He was joined at the podium by library staff member Yvonne Smith who gave a quick demonstration of the new services and by Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin, writer and literary scout, who writing as Sam Blake, has just published ‘Little Bones’, a crime thriller, in paper and eBook format.

Acting County Librarian, Eileen Morrissey, said that ‘customers can now access eBooks from anywhere and at any time, making us a true 24-hour library service,’ she said.

‘Library staff are on hand to give advice on using this new service, and over the coming months, we will roll out demonstrations in our library branches across the county.’ The service is free for users with a library card. To get started, visit www.wexford.ie/library .
