Sorcha to fly high with Irish National Youth Ballet Company
WEXFORD girl Sorcha Finn has been kept on her toes in recent weeks as she attempted to balance her Junior Cert exams with her audition for the Irish National Youth Ballet Company.
The 15-year-old Loreto student recently secured her place with the company following a successful audition on a weekend mid exam season. It was a significant moment for the student of Wexford School of Ballet and Performing Arts ( WSBPA), who has been studying ballet since she was three-years-old.
‘I’m absolutely thrilled but to be honest with the Junior Cert going on I just haven’t had time yet to fully take it all in. Obviously it’s a great honour to be invited to join INYB and to represent WSBPA there. The audition was technically very challenging but I felt comfortable on performance skills because we focus on that a huge amount in WSBPA,’ explained Sorcha. ‘I know it will mean a lot of commitment and hard work but I’m really excited about working with other teachers and dancers. I’ll still be dancing with WSBPA which I’m glad about – it’s like a second home to me!’
Sorcha has been dancing under the tutelage of Wexford teachers Anne and Suzanne O’Leary, as well as Emma Molloy since she was young. She will soon play the role of Aurora in the school’s upcoming performance of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ in the National Opera House.
Commenting on her acceptance into the INYB, Director of the school Suzanne O’Leary said she was delighted.
‘We are so proud of Sorcha’s achievement as we are always very proud when one of our students excel. This is also an honour for WSBPA and recognition that our students can meet the very stringent performance standards of national ballet. We wish Sorcha every success in the year ahead,’ she said.
