Faithlegg voted ‘Best Golf Resort in Munster 2016’
MAKING your members feel like kings is priceless and they will certainly enjoy a great venue like Faithlegg in Co Waterford, which was chosen as the “Best Golf Resort in Munster 2016” by the prestigious ‘Golfers Guide to Ireland’.
A true Championship course — it hosted the Ladies Irish Open Championship in 2000 and 2001— this enticing parkland challenge was designed by the great Patrick Merrigan, taking advantage of mature trees, rolling parkland and no fewer than five lakes.
Opened in May 1993, Faithlegg carries Merrigan’s familiar stamp of difficulty, undulating greens, water hazards and perfectly placed sand traps, all of which, complete and heighten the challenge.
Situated on the banks of the River Suir, just four miles from Waterford City in the heart of the sunny southeast, it measures 6,674 yards from the championship tees and just 6,284 from the whites, making strategy rather than distance the biggest challenge.
The last three holes are truly memorable — a pretty par-3 followed by two stout par-4s — and while the contoured greens can be a challenge, they are smooth and true all year round, adding to the enjoyment of a quality venue.
Long meandering putts are part of the test but even if you fail to hole your share, you’ll love the clubhouse, situated in the tastefully re-modelled coach house at the stately 18th century Faithlegg House. The clubhouse provides fine food and wine and enjoys uninterrupted views of the charming course. If you have worked up an appetite after your 18 holes, The Red Cedar Lounge is a must. BALLINTESKIN Par3 Golf is a challenging ninehole golf course. In 1995 the former agricultural land was transformed by course designer Michael Burns and PLK Golf Construction Limited to full course standard. Celebrating its 21th year anniversary this year, Ballinteskin opened its gates to the public in 1995 with local man James Whitty being the first customer of the fledgling business.
The greens and tees are sand-based and have never water-logged so the course stays open all year round from dawn till dusk. Each green is surrounded by steep mounds and deep bunkers that challenge the very best golfers. The hole distances range from 89 metres to 160 metres so all levels are catered for.
Among the customers have been societies from LOCATED on the sands of Ballymoney shore and nestled amidst 160 acres of glorious coastal parkland, Seafield Golf Club is designed to be a spectacularly scenic challenge.
Seafield Golf Club’s championship golf course has been designed to reveal attractive rolling fairways and subtle contoured greens, whilst blending seamlessly into the glorious natural landscape. Wind, sand and water; they all come into play on this beautifully landscaped and immaculately maintained course. With greens regarded amongst the best in the South East, Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny; Transition Year Students from Good Counsel College, Active Retirement Groups and families holding their own competitions.
It is hard to think of one unique selling point for Ballinteskin Par3 because it has many. The Fairy Ring, which you play over on the 7th hole, is surely unique to any golf course anywhere! The Rath was originally intended to host the green but the supersti-tious men on diggers said no and the course had to be redesigned! All visitors to the course are charmed by the greeting they get from the many animals found at Ballinteskin. Whether it is the donkeys neighing from the car park, the ducks waddling up by the putting green or the two labradors, Diego and Meig. each hole presents a different challenge. Afterwards, the immaculately-appointed clubhouse with breath-taking spectacular sights of the Irish Sea and delectable food, is the perfect place to relax and reflect on your game.
