COMMUNITY GAMES

The local Community Games camogie team played hosts to a team from Glenmore/Tullogher-Rosbercon, Co. Kilkenny in the second round of the Leinster team events recently in Hollymount. Having come through the first round to Carlow, the team were feeling buoyed up and ready for action.

Kilkenny settled quickly into the match and put a point over the bar after about five minutes and had a few near misses at goal too. Wexford got into their stride and replied with a fine goal and minutes later added another goal and a point. They added another goal in this half to leave the half time score 3-1 to 0-4 in favour of Wexford.

Kilkenny meant business in the second half and with just a minute or two gone sent the ball to the back of the net and minutes later added another goal to see the sides level for the first time in the match. Wexford scored a fine goal from a free but Kilkenny equalised yet again minutes later.

Kilkenny piled on the pressure and had a great spell for the next 10 minutes or so and Wexford were playing catch-up. Kilkenny took the game on a final scoreline of 6-5 to 4-1. We wish them well in the Leinster semi-finals and finals which will be held in Carlow on Saturday, July 2.

The local committee wish to thank most sincerely Eamonn Mernagh and Patricia Fielding and all associated with the team for all their help in putting the panel together and competing so well in the competition.
