NEWS of the death of Mrs. Ursula Redmond has caused sadness in Wexford where she lived with her late husband Tom and her family for many years.

Ursula (nee Mullins) passed away in St. Joseph’s House for the deaf in Stillorgan on Saturday last. She was 89 years old.

A native of Doninga, Kilkenny she came with Tom and her family to live at Upper William Street in Wexford town in 1970 from New Ross where all of the couple’s eight children were born.

Ursula is survived by her children Michael (Maryland); Marie (Bray); Billy (Melbourne); Alan (Naas); Teresa (Rathfarnham); Carmel (Mornington, County Louth); Cecelia ( Vermont) and Nick (Sutton); her brother Luke and sister Mary Bergin; her 16 grandchildren; her sisterin-law Maureen and Aileen; her extended family, the community at St. Joseph’s House and her many friends.

She was predeceased by Tom in 2010 and also by her brothers Jim, Paddy and Liam and by her sister Evie Eager.

Ursula and Tom moved from Wexford to live in St. Joseph’s House in Dublin nine years ago but maintained the family home and their links with the town, visiting the area regularly.

Ursula was a sister of the famous horse trainer Paddy Mullins and an aunt of trainers Willy, Tony and Tom. She followed the fortunes of Paddy and her nephews with great interest. Having grown up on a big farm in Kilkenny, she had a great love of animals and nature.

A former pupil of Cabra School for the Deaf, she and Tom met through the deaf community and they were both founder members of the Wexford Deaf Association which still continues today.

She was a strong believer in the value of education and encouraged all her children to attend college, taking great pride in their later career achievements.

Ursula and Tom travelled extensively over the years, visiting family members around the world in Australia, America and Europe.

Her children and grandchildren travelled to Wexford from far-flung corners to attend the funeral in Wexford.

The removal will take place from Mulligan’s Funeral Home in The Faythe to the Church of the Assumption, Bride Street today (Tuesday) at 11.30 a.m. for 12 noon Mass, followed by burial in Crosstown Cemetery where Tom was also interred.
