SEAN COGLEY, who died suddenly aged 62 in early June, was a thoughtful, kind man who went out of his way to help others every chance he got.

Late of Cloughbawn and Castle View, Taghmon, Sean died on June 2 at a friend’s house.

He is survived by Breda; his sons, M. J., John, Eugene, Thomas; daughters, Carmel, Navenette, Deborah, Aishling; 16 grandchildren; great-granddaughter; sisters, Anne and Chris; brothers, Thomas, Aidan, Mick and Paddy; extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his son, Adrian.

Growing up Sean attended Clonroche NS. Always good with his hands, he started working at a young age and would go on to work for countless people across the county over the following decades.

Talented at carpentry and electrical work, Sean’s services were always in demand and he recently helped his daughter Deborah complete renovation works on her home in Dublin.

A man who was always up for the craic, Sean attended dances in his youth and met his wifeto-be Breda at one such event.

Even when he wasn’t working Sean lived an active life, fishing at Slade and in freshwater rivers, or enjoying traditional and country and western music sessions.

He also enjoyed horse racing and in recent years travelled to the UK for horse racing festivals with some friends.

Usually a quiet, unassuming man, Sean could also be somewhat of a paradox in that certain issues could lead him to voice his opinions at length and let his thoughts be known, in his unique, witty way.

Naturally personable he took everyone as he saw them and made many friends over the years while being sure to keep in touch with his old friends.

Sean moved to Taghmon around a decade ago, living at Casle View and was an active member of the community. Up until last year he called regularly with dinner to an elderly lady in the village and was always looking out for his neighbours.

His daughter Deborah said: ‘Dad was a gentleman. He had a heart of gold. The amount of people he helped in his life was amazing. He was always there for people.’

He enjoyed great health throughout his life and was due to visit Deborah and her family on Friday, June 3, when, while visiting with a friend, he took ill and died suddenly.

A large crowd attended Sean’s removal and funeral Mass at St Clements Church, Cloughbawn, where Martin Ryan performed some beautiful music. His burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
