SadnessatpassingofDr. Sinéad

-

DR. SINÉAD Kinsella was the daughter of John (Seán) Kinsella and Myra King (Kinsella) formerly of Beechlawn, Clonard, Wexford.

She was younger sister to Elisabeth, Catherine, Maureen, John and twin sister to Siobhán. Sinéad was a much loved aunt to her nieces and nephews, Andrew, Sarah, Fiona, Emma, James, Isabel, Susan and Darragh. She took great enjoyment in being their ‘cool’ aunt.

Sinéad attended Kennedy Park National School and followed her sisters to Loreto Convent, Wexford. From an early age, Sinéad demonstrated a keen intellect, fierce loyalty to her family and friends, love of life and fun.

Sinéad had an eclectic taste in music which started early in her teenage years, listening to Jim Morrison and Guns ‘n Roses. This developed to include Pearl Jam, Counting Crows and The Coronas. She enjoyed listening to music and attending concerts with her family and friends.

Sinéad was an avid reader since she was a child and always had a book on the go. Music and reading remained a constant throughout her life, with that free spirit never far from the surface.

Sinéad completed her Medical Degree in University College Cork in the year 2000. She came to love Cork and made it her home.

In her first year practicing medicine at Cork University Hospital (CUH), she was awarded Intern of the Year. Sinéad chose Nephrology (Kidney Disease) as her specialty and progressed her career working in hospitals in Limerick, Galway and Dublin, returning to CUH last year as a Consultant Nephrologist.

An accomplished research and academic career developed in tandem with her clinical work. Sinéad completed a Masters in Health Service Management & became a world authority on bone metabolic disease secondary to chronic renal failure, the topic of her PhD.

She is widely published in books and journals and her research is regularly cited in academic publications worldwide. Patients will continue to benefit from her research for many years to come.

Sinéad was recognised as an excellent teaching doctor and mentor to new medics, instilling in them the empathy, compassion and sensitivity needed when dealing with patients and their families both during her time on the staff of University College Dublin and in her clinical role in teaching hospitals. This was a fundamental element of her approach to medical practice.

Sinéad completed these feats while battling cancer for the past eight years, choosing to live life to the full and accomplish as much as she possibly could.

Sinead was witty, funny, cheeky and entertaining, the queen of one liners. She got away with it, with the flash of her brilliant smile! Her love of movies and books, especially the Super Heroes and Harry Potter was well known as well as her ability to quote complete sections from Gladiator.

The loss of her keen wit, great sense of humour, intellect and generosity of spirit will be long felt by her family, relatives, colleagues and many friends from all areas of her life.

Sinéad celebrated her 40th birthday last December and passed away on 15 July, 2016 at Marymount University Hospital and Hospice surrounded by her family.

Sinead was predeceased by her father Sean’s wife Mary (Barrett) Kinsella, formerly of Kinsale.

Her Requiem Mass took place on 16th July, 2016 in the Church of the Incarnation, Frankfield, Cork.

Her Months Mind Mass will take place on Saturday, August 20 at 10am in the Church of the Incarnation, Frankfield, Cork.
