Amy (19) loses brave battle with illness

-

THERE is heartbreak in Gorey this week at the passing, following a long illness, of 19-year-old Amy Sunderland of Ballywilliam, Gorey, who will be laid to rest tomorrow, Wednesday, on the day her fellow classmates receive their Leaving Cert results.

Amy was the beloved daughter of Maria (nee Hobbs), and precious younger sister of Lisa. Her father Geoffrey died in December 1998, when she was less than two-years old.

She went to school at Tara Hill NS and Gorey Community School, but as she battled her illness throughout the past year, she was unable to continue with her education as far as the Leaving Cert which she would have been due to sit in June.

Before her illness, Amy was a member of Castletown Liam Mellows ladies football team. She was remembered this week as a chatty, vibrant, and outgoing teenager who was always in good form. Amy passed away on Sunday at her home, surrounded by her family, relatives and friends.

She is reposing at her home today, Tuesday, August 16, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with prayers at 9 p.m. Removal will take place from her home on Wednesday at 1.45 p.m. to St. Kevin’s Church, Tara Hill for Funeral Mass at 2.30 p.m. followed by burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Gorey. Family flowers. Donations, if desired, to Beaumont Hospital Foundation or North Wexford Hospice Homecare.
