T’S time to get your engines in gear for the annual Tagoat Steam and Vintage Rally which takes place on Sunday, August 21.

Now in its 31st year, the event has become one of the largest and most highly-anticipated rallies in the South-East.

On Sunday there will be plenty of fun for all the family, young and old.

In addition to the rally itself there are plenty of attractions to keep everyone entertained all day long. Added to the mix is the ever popular vintage display and you have all the ingredients for a great day out for all the family.

The vintage displays include an unusual steam roller and an array of vintage trucks, many of which will travel from overseas for the event. A huge collection of vintage cars, bikes, engines and tractors are sure to draw in vintage enthusiasts, while the on-site carnival will provide modern entertainment for the young and old alike.

Visitors can explore many age-old traditions at the thatch, forge and farrier demonstrations.

There will also be a chance to see some of the old steam machines in action at the steam and tractor thrashing display.

The ever-popular dog show will also return for this year’s event, with an array of exciting prizes on offer for whoever is crowned top dog.

Old favourites such as the duck race, market stalls and penalty shoot out are certainly not to be missed, while the barbeque and food stalls will keep hunger at bay.

Of course, what would the Tagoat Steam Rally be without singing and dancing. Bands such as Tom Murphy and the Highwaymen and the Ballindaggin Pipe Band will provide live music throughout the day.

Meanwhile, the Drinagh Mummers will introduce audiences to the tradition of mumming with a unique performance which always goes does a treat with everyone.

The Tagoat Steam Rally has come a long way since it began in 1985. At the large photo exhibition, visitors can see how a small community event in a field evolved into one of the most popular steam rallies in the area.

However, despite many changes, the charitable roots of the rally have remained the same. All funds raised over the weekend will go towards local causes including the local Day Care Centre, the local school, church, graveyards and other local organisations.

The Tagoat Steam Rally will be officially opened on Sunday August 21 at 2.30pm by Cllr Ger Carthy, but gates are open from 12pm.

There will be ample car parking next to the field for those travelling from a distance. Entry costs €5 for adults, with free admission for children.
