LADIES UNDERAGE

Our under-12 girls travelled to Bellefield during the week to take on the Starlights in the Shield semi-final. The girls played an amazing game against a very strong Starlights outfit. They fought hard for the entire game and never gave up, it was a close battle with St Fintan’s down by one point at the break. The girls then took the lead in the last quarter, only to be foiled in the last few minutes, losing out by two points at the final whistle. Score 5-7 to 5-5. It has to be said that these under-12 girls showed tremendous courage and spirit throughout the game we could not be more proud of them. They have done themselves their families and our club proud. Great stuff, girls.

CAMOGIE NEWS

Well done to the Intermediate women who beat Blackwater 4-12 to four points on Monday night and are now into the semi-final. The under-16 girls had a mixed week, they beat Davidstown Monday night on a scoreline of 5-7 to 2-1 but lost out to St James’s Wednesday night on a scoreline of 6-9 to 3-3. Keep an eye on Facebook for up to date fixtures and results.

Another great win was recorded for the under-10 White camogie team on Wednesday evening at home against St Martin’s. The girls showed great skill and determination and never gave up when St Martin’s put on the pressure. Well played girls, you were all brilliant. Our under-16 camogie team put up a massive fight in their final group game v St Ibar’s Shelmaliers on Thusday evening. Needing a win to stay in championship the team threw everything they had at the opposition but the final result ws a draw. Huge credit is due to the panel of girls who gave the supporters such a thrilling game and wore their blue and green jerseys wth great pride in 2016. A busload of club supporters travelled to Thurles to watch club girl Emma Walsh and the Wexford Senior camogie team who took on the reigning All-Ireland Champions Cork in Semple Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Clubman Alan Stafford and (team trainer). The supporters were treated to a superb display of camogie that ended in a draw at full time but unfortunately a gap opened between the two teams and Wexford were defeated by 0-19 to 0-15.

COISTE NA NÓG

Our under-16 hurlers were unfortunately beaten by Faythe Harriers in Pairc Charman on Monday evening in championship. Well done to our under-12 football team who defeated St Martin’s in championship in Piercestown yesterday evening and hard luck to our under-11s who lost their game to St Martin’s the same evening.

Hard luck to the Minor footballers defeated by Bunclody away on Wednesday evening. The boys worked hard and had patches of dominance but on this occasion were not as polished in their finishing as they can be. Final score 2-10 Bunclody 0-10 Glynn-Barntown. 22 of our under-12 hurlers travelled north this weekend to participate in the North Antrim hurling blitz where they played four games against O’Loughlin Gaels of Kilkenny and three Co. Development Squads defeating the Kilkenny side and a Derry selection and giving Antrim Glens and North Antrim a rattle. They enjoyed a great experience and have received an invitation back for next year. Our under-nine and under-10 boys played St Martin’s in football on Friday evening in Killurin and put up two great performances. On Saturday the same boys headed off to Monamolin to take part in the Buffers Alley under-10 hurling blitz where they played four games and won two. Well done, boys. Our under-seven and under-eight boys had matches v Rathgarogue-Cushinstown on Friday evening in Cushinstown. SENIOR GAA

Our under-21 hurlers engineered an incredible 24-point turnaround in their championship quarter final replay against Oulart the Ballagh this evening. Following a dismal first half which yielded only four points for Glynn-Barntown (Matthew Joyce 0-3, Padraic Weafer (0-1) and 1-12 for our opposition, the boys injected serious pride and passion into their game in the second half and with a brace of goals from David Clarke (penalty), Rowan White, Kevin Mahoney (2-0) and Frankie Hynes and six points from Padraic Weafer (0-2), Aaron Kehoe (0-1), Matthew Joyce (0-1) Matt Doyle (0-1) and Kevin Mahoney (0-1), Glynn-Barntown took undisputed control of the encounter. With only a one point reply from Oulart the Ballagh our lads took victory and booked a semi-final spot against Faythe Harriers. Final score 5-14 to 1-13. Our Senior hurlers came up against the Shelmaliers in Innovate Wexford Park on Saturday afternoon and earned a vital two championship points from a sixpoint win with scores coming from Craig Doyle (0-2), Michael Doyle (0-04), John Leacy (0-06), Gary Moore (0-02) and Matthew Joyce (0-01). The Glynn-Barntown men led by two points at half time with the benefit of a strong breeze and kicked on in the second half to increase their lead and take the victory.

On Sunday evening in Killurin the Junior hurlers went head to head with Kilmore in championship but were unfortunately defeated 1-08 to 0-16.
