Payroll a vital function in every company PAYROLL is a vital function in every company, yet the vast majority of payroll personnel have no formal Payroll Qualifications.

Working in payroll is a varied, challenging and demanding career, but one that brings enormous job satisfaction, and little by little the role of payroll professionals is gaining the respect and the recognition that it truly deserves. Dealing with ever changing Revenue, Social Welfare and Employment Law legislation, working to strict deadlines, being proficient in the use of IT and dealing with a myriad of queries from employees and management alike, means that the role of payroll personnel is a highly demanding one, whether operating as a one man payroll department, or as a member of a payroll team in a large multinational.

If you would like to pursue a career in payroll or would like to enhance your career prospects the Irish Payroll Association IPASS is Irelands leading provider of Payroll and VAT training and certification. Their Payroll and VAT qualifications are accredited by QQI (Quality Qualifications Ireland) at Level 6. Classes are held nationwide and by distance/ online learning.

SWWFRC is based in Ramsgrange, New Ross, Co. Wexford (only 15 minutes from New Ross and 10 minutes from Wellingtonbridge) and provides a wide range of level 4, 5 and 6 QQI accredited courses. On offer in Ramsgrange are daytime Back to Education Initiative programmes in Office Skills (level 4) Retail Skills (level 4) and Tourism with Business (level 5). These courses are free for early school leavers or those who are in receipt of a Social Welfare Payment or have a medical card. As Jan clarifies “BTEI provides a great prospect for learners to work towards a major award on a part time basis at no cost to themselves and we are very fortunate to be able to provide this opportunity in conjunction with Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board”.

However it’s not only BTEI training opportunities that are offered in Ramsgrange. Other part time courses on offer include:

• Care Skills – component of level 5 major award in Healthcare Support

• Children with Additional Needs – component of level 5 major award in Childcare

Modules will be taken on a part time basis and learners can expect to complete their full award within 24 months. Learners will follow the same path for each award and will choose an elective towards the end of the course which will decide which major award they wish to achieve. The first module being offered is Social Studies and other modules coming up include Understanding Mental Health, Equality & Disability, Psychology and Human Growth and Development all delivered on a part time basis so learners can fit this around family and/ or work commitments”.
