ROSSLARELADIES

Tuesday was our President’s, Jim Hennessy, prize to the ladies and 104 played. There was a lovely atmosphere around for the day - normally we might play a strokes competition but it was stableford much to the relief of a lot of ladies.

Anne Redmond won first place with a great 42 points, but it was very tight as Elaine McGirr had the same points but was just beaten on the back nine. Jim presented a beautiful and most generous first prize to a thrilled Anne Redmond, but also thrilled were her regular playing partners Catherine Young and Eleanor O’Connor as they won prizes too!

There must have been no chit chat that Tuesday! Mairéad Browne, as steady as ever, won the gross. Well done to all the ladies who won prizes - details below.

On Saturday, there was a team competition sponsored by Colm and Geraldine Menton. The weather conditions were terrible and this competition had previously been called off due to bad weather, but 16 brave teams battled the elements.

Michael Roche, captain of the winning team, in his speech, maintained he really did earn first spot as he had also ventured out last time and had been in a winning position. But he attributed most of the success to the Junior girl on his team, Emma Fenlon - ‘a player to watch in the future’.

The other brave person on the day was our chef, David. It was our gala barbeque night and he was responsible for roasting a whole pig on the spit. Not deterred for a minute, poor Bessie the pig was basted and twirled for ten hours and tasted delicious along with the rest of the gorgeous buffet food.

We then all bopped to the golden oldie music of the ’60s and ’70s and felt we were right back there as we were all those years ago.

Our Junior ladies’ Captain, Alannah Duggan, had her annual competition on the Burrow course and it was won by Grace Walsh. Well done to all the girls who entered and to Elizabeth Callaghan, our Junior co-ordinator.

Apologies for the error last week: today’s competition (Tuesday, August 23) is sponsored by Boggan’s Londis in Rosslare Strand.
