GAA LOTTO

The St Fintan’s GAA lotto now stands at €4,800 and tickets can be purchased from local shops and the club grounds on Tuesday evenings from 8 p.m. and from club members at a cost of €1.50. There is also a match-three prize of €300 up for grabs each week and Chris Keane and Peter Hughes shared in this prize with the following numbers drawn were 5, 10, 12 and 13.Many thanks for your continued support.

SPLIT-THE-POT

The cost associated with running the men’s teams are endless and it is hoped that these draws will help towards funding it. The draw will run for August and September and will take place on the last Friday of each month. Tickets are €10 each and are limited to just 50 tickets per month with the winner each month receiving €250. Tickets available from any of our players or from club secretary Sharon Pettit. Please support and help the lads on their way to the quarter final come September.

ANNUAL GARDENING SHOW

An invitation is extended to keen gardeners from all over Wexford to compete in this year’s Gardening Show. The show will be held in the Irish Agricultur­al Museum (Johnstown Castle) on September 10 and 11. Any flowers, fruit and vegetables can be entered as well as homemade preserves, pot plants and floral arranging. DANCING AT CROSSROADS

It’s time to rewind ourselves and bring back those fond memories of an all-Ireland weekend, 20 years ago. Let’s get together for an evening of open-air music and craic and big-screen highlights of that memorable game.

It is all happening in Killinick village on Saturday, September 3, at 6.30 p.m.,so get on your Wexford jerseys and we’ll all have some fun. Come along and enjoy the music of the four live bands.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

There will be a church gate collection for the Severely Intellectu­ally Disabled on Saturday and Sunday the 10th and September 11, In Ballymore and Mayglass Churches. Your support would be greatly appreciate­d.

ST FINTAN’S GAA

Well done to all involved. Our under-16 hurlers received a walk over in their quarter final and will now progress to the semi-final. Well done to our Junior A hurlers who had a solid victory over Halfway House Bunclody on a scoreline of 3-10 to 0-13 in their final group game. A quarter final game now beckons with the exact fixture to be confirmed early this week. Well done to all concerned.

A busy week ahead and It all kicked off on Monday evening last when our under-16 boys contested their Football Roinn one Shield Quarter Final V Monageer in Ballymore. On Tuesday evening the under-12 boys play their hurling Shield Final V Cloughbawn in Grantstown at 6.30 p.m. while St Fintan’s ladies under-16s play their county semi-final V Blackwater in Ballymore at 6.45 p.m. On Wednesday evening the minor hurlers head to Taghmon for their Roinn two County Final V Cloughbawn at 6.30 p.m. On Friday the second the Junior B District Football semi-final St Fintan’s V Crossabeg Ballymurn at 6 p.m. with a venue still to be confirmed. Saturday is a day to bring a flask with first up the under-14 Div four hurling Final V Oylegate-Glenbrien in Killurin at 12.30 p.m. then it’s straight onto Oylegate for our men’s Intermedia­te Football Championsh­ip quarter final V Bannow-Ballymitty at 4 p.m.

As ever support on the sidelines is very much appreciate­d. Best of luck to all competing teams over the coming week. And not to forget our youngest little stars, our under-6s and under-8s are out this Sunday in a hurling blitz in Tagoat at 11 a.m.

ST FINTAN’S LADIES

Well done to the under-16 girls who put in another great performanc­e on the field in Ballymore during the past week in their quarter final v Glynn-Barntown. After a slow start the girls got into their stride and took some lovely scores moving the ball around with some great team work, once again the backline stood strong with mid field putting in a lot of miles and the forwards attacked as a unit and the final scoreline read 9-18 to 3-0 in favour of the St Fintan’s ladies.

The girls now meet Blackwater in the semifinal, keep up the hard work for a little longer girls and good luck.

BLITZ DAY IN CROKE PARK

Bright and early on Tuesday morning last our super under-eights left Killinick for a blitz day in GAA Headquarte­rs, Croke Park. Bursting with excitement throughout the day the boys and girls done themselves, their families and clubs proud with a great display of hurling on the hallowed turf.

A big thank you to mentors David, Enda, Willie, Edward and Linda for organising the day and a huge thank you to the parents for embracing the opportunit­y and lending their massive support to this memorable occasion. Thanks to Willie Doyle for capturing some great pics.

AFTERNOON TEA/FAIR

Tomhaggard social centre is the place to be on Saturday, September 3, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the annual Afternoon tea party. This year there’s also a Craft Fair with a huge selection of handmade items for own use or as gifts, home baking cake sale, photo and painting display which are for sale, raffle, music by Quaynotes and comedy with Ballycogle­y Players. It wouldn’t be complete without Mrs Doyle lucky dip stall and waiters and waitresses in formal attire.

DRAMA

Ballycogle­y Players are finalising their casts for One Act and Full Length plays but there’s still time to join up if you’re interested. Also they intend putting on a production for teenagers as part of the autumn schedule so if you want to try drama we want to hear from you. (no experience necessary) Contact 087 6858480.

SCOUTS

Registrati­on for the new scouting year is on Wednesday, September 7, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., with meetings resuming on Wednesday, September 14, for cubs, scouts and ventures from seven to 8.30 p.m. while beavers start back on Saturday, September 17, from 10 to 11.30 a.m.

Registrati­on Fee for Scouting Ireland is still €45 which may be paid in increments. There are places available in Beaver section 6-8-year-olds, Ventures 15-18 with very limited places in Cubs 9-11 and Scouts 12-15.

WOMEN’S SHED

Tomhaggard Women’s Shed meet on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., new members welcome. If you’re interested in learning new skills, sharing your own skills, or just want to hang out with like minded ladies over a cuppa and chat why not give it a go. Reading Room open to public at the same time.

TOMHAGGARD CENTRE

Tomhaggard Social Centre is looking to broaden its range of activities for the community. Would you like to see a monthly Film Club, Board Games Club, Children’s Reading Club, Yoga, Social dancing, Storytelli­ng, Exercise club, etc.

The committee want to get your feedback and suggestion­s so can talk to any committee member or groups who currently use the facilities. The Social Centre is also available to hire for meetings and classes. Contact 087 6812690.

AFTERNOON TEA

Sincere thanks to all who attended the afternoon tea fundraiser in Ballycogle­y Hall last Sunday in aid of the hall developmen­t. We had a very enjoyable afternoon and raised approximat­ely €750.

The committee would like to thank all those who attended and contribute­d so generously, to all those who baked confection­ary, to the local musicians who entertaine­d us so well, to the Ballycogle­y Players for providing a stage set and a display of very interestin­g photos of 40 years of drama, to all those who provided old photos of people and events in the parish in years gone by which brought back a lot of memories.

Thanks also to Crosbie Brothers for sponsoring the display posters and to Rosaleen’s Florist who kindly sponsored some beautiful floral table centers which were greatly admired. Winners of the raffle for the flowers were Bob Quilty, Mairead Jones, Patricia Murphy, Pat Higgins and Marie Goodwin.

Everyone enjoyed the social occasion and also got the opportunit­y to see the proposed new plan for the hall. Despite the slightly damp weather yesterday the Corach Ramblers golf classic in the abbey par three went ahead, thanks to Frank Browne for his help and for having the course in excellent condition as usual and thanks to Clodagh Barry for her help on the day. The winners on the day were Tony and Ciss Wallace from Duncannon and the winner of the hamper was James Wallace Duncannon.

GAA CLUB NOTES

Lottery numbers were 10, 17, 24 and 28. We had three matchthree winner’s well done to Robert Mageen, David Ross and Bernie Furlong. Jackpot will be €4,700.

The intermedia­te football team have entered the Quarter Final stages. After a great win over St Joseph on Friday last they will take on St Fintan’s in Oylegate this Saturday afternoon four o’clock. All support will be greatly appreciate­d.

Well done to the under-12 Boys who have got themselves into a County Final after a great win over Clonard.

The under-16 Hurling team lost their Quarter Final Shield to Buffers Alley ending their season. Great effort and hard work this year Boys. Thanks to their Mentors Ciaran, Pat, Dan, Ken and Alan.

Well done to all who participat­ed in the Fleadh. A great week was had by all.

SAD PASSING

Deepest sympathy to Pat Boyce and family, Graigeen on the death of Trish last Thursday at her home. Trish is survived by her husband Pat, daughter Katie May, sons Will and Patrick, sister Catherine, brothers Donal and Paddy.

Her removal was on Saturday at midday from her residence to Carrig-on-Bannow church for funeral Mass with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery. May she be at peace.
