Fun stage classes for WACT team
YOUNG actors are being invited to join Wexford Artists Community Theatre ( WACT).
WACT are extending an open invitation to young people aged between five and 18 years to join the group of performers for stage. Members of the WACT acting ensemble will learn about the workings of theatre through theatre games and exercises. Joanne Donohoe Doyle of WACT said: ‘Failing is often seen as a negative experience. In theatre failing with confidence instills the understanding that failing is a necessary part of the learning experience on the road to mastering new skills. We teach some circus skills as an introduction to this positive process of learning. Too often young people are afraid to learn something new for fear of appearing silly. Theatre builds a platform for a positive approach to learning. We laugh a lot at sessions.’
Primary school aged members will attend the young actors (5-11 year olds) one hour sessions. The year will culminate with a presentation of work to family and friends in their own performance space. The Youth Theatre (12 years to 19 years) structure involves learning basic theatre skills, teamwork and voicework and choosing a one act play.
WACT encourage all members to get involved with prop making, costume design, poster design, sound design etc. The year will culminate with a public performance in the Jerome Hynes Black Box in The Wexford Opera House. WACT are affiliated with The National Association of Youth Drama and group members spent the last three summers at the National Festival of Youth theatres in Kilkenny.
